Ahh okay Peter, I'm quite a lost cause when it comes to engine internals.
Why didn't you come to the rescue earlier??

Chris, I am cautious about commenting on noises, as at best, it's all guesswork usually.

Causes of ticking could be cam shims, injectors, manifold leak, dodgy oil filter etc, or none of the above. It really needs for someone to get down and dirty with some serious listening to get a good idea of where the noise is coming from, and hopefully to get a good idea of what it is before the wallet gets opened.

At this point, I would also suggest get a second opinion, as if the mechanic thinks it's an adjustment, then maybe he isn't the best guy to be working on your car. Keep in mind though, that we are reading your translation of what he said, so what he thinks he said may be different. :-)

Noises are very hard to diagnose, and very specific things.

At best, you need to actually hear it to know.

Lol Luke, I would ship the bugger up if I thought it was a goer....

I have a very strong feeling I will be Oxy-melting the bolt out for this one unfortunately...
