Hello all,
I have just bought a set of T3G's, just a couple of questions. There is 0.5mm of shaft play up and down but no shaft play back and forth, should I be worried at all about this? Owner said 5000km run mainly on drift. Also, is the stock T3G dump pipe alright or is it bad like ct12 dump pipe? Should I switch to Lew's and would Lew's even bolt up to the T3G's or would the flange need to be changed? I tried contacting him but his email bounced. Plus the exhaust side of the turbo is freaking dirty looking any way to clean it up?

If they've been rebuilt "5,000kms" ago, he should have documentation to prove it. HKS stopped making T3G's a long long time ago.
Who came up with 0.5mm and how was it measured?
All journal bearing turbo's will have shaft play if they have no oil. The shaft actually 'floats' on a film of oil when they're operating so their is clearance built into them to allow that to happen. NO shaft play means there is carbon caked up under the turbine or something and you can't feel the movement when wriggling the compressor or turbine. There should be some movement up and down - its normal. "0.5mm" is very little if you consider that the longer the shaft is (ie. bigger the turbo) the more shaft play you're going to feel for a given clearance because the shaft length multiplies any movement in the CHRA.
If your description is accurate, they sound normal.

post up some pics of them also. I also run the t3gs and mine were bought with 7000kms on them from new. I knoe cause I bought them from a friend in Malaysia.
I elected to port my dump pipe and the ceramic coat the hole thing inlcuding turbine housings and manifolds.

Thanks for the information,
I guesstimated the shaft play just by looking at the area between blade and inlet, I know for sure its less than 1mm i sat there inspecting it for ages coz I was worried after paying $2850 for them.
Mustafa, how much for porting and coating? And where you get your metal water lines done? Is metal better for water and braided silicone for oil?

Roshan the water pipes you see in those pics is not the final product. I paid particular attention to the water lines as you can see the banjo bolt is not able to be pullled off without pulling the turbo off. so you need a sturdy water line so it will last.
I used earls fittings with adaptors to lengthen them and connected the best hose moneycould buy i inserted these hoses inside some fire retartdent sleeves to further prtoect them from the immense turbine heat.
I had mine ceramic coated at Liverpool exhaust you will be looking at around $400 depending on who does it. I paid a lot less as I know them.
below is a picure of what the final setup looked like.

no they use there own manifolds and dumps. the only thing interchangeable is the intake pipe in the picture above.
the stock soarer exhaust will bolt strait up to them with no modification needed. so you could get a totally stock soarer pull off the ct12`s bolt these on and change nothing same exhaust same intake etc. bolt in 100%

What's the max psi you can push out of these?? Car is finally getting tuned on Friday by the great man Yuvuz, can't wait till it's finally up and running right...

Can't really say (as with any turbo...), just keep going until compressor efficiency hence power drops off.
With Joe's car i reset the rev limit to 7900rpm and we were up at abouts 290rwkw with 20psi on a dyno dynamics no shootout & RR13. Peak power at 7700rpm!

Hi,
Thanks for the help guys. Mustafa getting ceramic coating done for $140 + GST per section, i.e. 2 x exhaust + 1dump, seems reasonable stuff just seems more expensive in Brisbane than down there. Just wondering if you have the lengths required for the oil and water lines by any chance written down. Is it 2 water lines and 2 oil lines for this setup? Your first picture has 5 connections to the turbo's and can't tell from the other pictures. Would like to get all the stuff ready for when mechanic removes and refits next week. Plus i'm a real newbie and was just wondering does everything bolt onto the turbo's using a banjo bolt?
