Theres always pressure in a gas tank from evaporated fuel.. naturally. But when i park and get out i notice a hiss, quite audible... from around the gas cap area....
It goes away of course when the pressure is reduced...
is this normal or is there a seal damaged, gas cap needs replacing, or whatever...

I'd say it's just the normal pressure exiting from your tank. Mine does it every time I unscrew the cap to fill her up. Standard build up of pressure being released.

hmm yeah i know it happens when u unscrew the cap, thats why youre supposed to unscrew halfway then the rest of the way a few seconds later to avoid something or other...
anyways yeah anyone got a link to replacement gas caps theyre likely a fortune at toyota and i cant find anything online at ebay or whatever..
someone able to grab one at a wrecker or a replacement at a local shop and post it?
the gas tanks opening and screw caps on the soarer are totally different than in north america, theyre like way huge...

A specific vapour pressure is part of the specs, same as octane number is. When you buy some it will come out of the underground tank at a lower temperature than what is normally that in your tank. Therefore when you go to buy more you've usually got a low level in your tank, the remaining space filled with the vapour and at a higher temperature therefore at a higher pressure. Not sure what type of filler cap you have but mine screws in until it clicks and you can't tighten it further. Any hissing would lead me to believe that this vapour pressure is passing the cap seal and not the hose that connects the tank to the filler pipe otherwise you'd smell the fumes in the car. Seeing that you're in a cold climate may mean that your fuel is blended different to take account of the lower temperature ie more volatile. Either way I'd inspect your filler cap and seal.

I have the same issue as Mike has, but I can't fill up my car after driving it for 30 mins or so becuase if I do, it will piss out heaps of petrol. Will replacing this cap seal fix this issue?? I know my cap seal has been broken for years now, but never effected it before, it has only been recently this has been happening...
