Well this is my first post and its a problem.

My car has been running perfectly for the 1 month I have had it.
Now it only idles at 500rpm.

When I used to start it in the mornings, the rpm would be above 1000 and slowly come down as the engine warms up.
Now when I start it and its cold, it just sits on 500rpm.
Seems to still be running fine but there is a little bit of shaking when I'm stationary at the lights.

Any ideas?

hi guys the jz has electric idle control at the far side, near the fire wall and this unit control the air that goes in when foot is off and also control the cold start choke and even the air cond . it dose what ecu tell it to, like air con on give me more rev or when the water temp sensor say to ecu we are warm now so we dont need to run 1200rpm ecu say ok ! send sms to idle control close up we need 750rpm not 600 or 850 but 750rpm when engine is warm. if the engine dose not idle where it should be, then more likely to start at sensor then the control unit it self. and if it is the sensor you are wasting fuel as this keep telling ecu that engine cold hi rpm to warm up and more rich fuel to keep everything burning when cold, and if you blowing unburn fuel all the time as you leave the light!! yes i start there sensor $70 buck from toyota or if your car dose this on start up 1200rpm then 1000rpm then 500rpm and 650 ,750 the back to 600 all over the court would be idle control starting to go!

the sensor are near the water pump entry or just around there in front of turbo no 1 next to the temp gauge sensor it's comment to be in yellow but i seen in red. you will know as it has twin head as the temp gauge has just one and commently black! as for part number i can't tell you just drive in to toyota ,ask for the parts ,then with that the explosive view to keep it for your own education on the 1jz! the problem you have consistance or what? when you say shutting down!! not reving !! or cut out then stop! because there're the water temp sensor which plays big role on start up and air cond and letting ecu know to give that extra fuel on start up! then there's oxigen sensor which live at the down pipe , it's job is to read the after burned combustion air/ fuel ratio. as the oxi sensor becames old they tent to give fault info to ecu! example, like to lean! on the mix!! which then makes the ecu add more fuel to keep the mixture in the safe zone which in turn over fueling or vice versa but more likely this way! the japanese manu recomments to replace this item at every 40,000km but who would think of it! well some do! at $270 to $300 from toyota maybe asking abit, but to know that your engine gets the best mixture and ecu recives the right information it's cheap ! think of it this way the after market Motec or similar stand alone ecu kits will have this unit replace to Hi end denso or bosch to keep their Motec ecu getting the right information fast so it can produce the right air / fuel to the pre set tunning

Well I banged a few things, fiddled with the hoses and revved the throttle and it's back to normal.

Just borrowing your thread. I'm having the exact same problems as you. Owned the car a few months, done about 16,000kms (48,000kms to 64,000) on it and little by little it has started to idle around 500rpm. Even less! So what things (on your car) did you bang and what hoses (again, on your car) did you fiddle?

Changed the plugs (to BCPR7ES from BKR6EP) a few days ago but somehow felt a bit worse maybe?

Thinking of taking apart the ISCV but actually got a question about it; is it hard to dismount? Any pics perhaps?

Well, it's friday so maybe I'll bang something and maybe fiddle a hose..
