Hi,
Just a quick question.
If I get an electronic boost controller will I still need to install a FCD?

Thanks

yes :-)

FCD: tricks you map sensor into thinking its seeing only X amount of boost

EBC: Tricks your wastgates into thinking they are tighter then what they are....

with a FCD, you can boost to e.g 15psi (without fuel cut occuring)... however, factory wastgates are set to 10psi.... so to accomplish the 'desired' 15psi, a ebc is needed... so together they can work in harmony :-)

Rats!
I might as well get a manual one then.

I thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Forget the FCD / EBC combo, why not do it right the first time and go ECU / EBC, that way you can make the tune safe with the new boost increase and you no longer need the band-aid FCD fix.

One thing stopping me would be money.
I'm not planning to spend large amounts of money on the car.

What would be the cheapest fcd/ebc combo available?

The price difference between ECU and FCD is huge. Not everyone is aiming for single turbo monsters down the line.

I don't have a single turbo, and never want to go that way.. But am still running above what would be the fuel cut with standard turbos that I am to keep. Am using a Mines ecu to get around it. They are not all that expensive when you start thinking about the cost of replacing an engine due to it leaning out. Cheap insurance is the way I look at it.

it all comes down to combos (brands).....
a hks FCD and a greddy profec may set you back up to $550 > $750 (with install and a dyno setup)

an ecu (emanage blue) around $850 + a manual boost tap @ $60 = around the $900ish

it all depends which route you go, but sometimes the extra $$$ can be te difference (not to mention the power gain and fuel economy you gain with the ecu, and not running 10.5 richness all the time as most soarers do :-) )

Just something to keep in mind Kris. You say your not planning on upgrading to a single turbo. I assume your running your stock standard turbos. In this case your not going to want to boost them above say 14 psi. (This is just a rough value, someone correct me if it sounds out of place) Not sure if you've read up on it much, but the stock turbos with ceramic bearings can not handle much more than this without doing damage. The fuel cut however im pretty sure is still a few psi above this value. So running stock turbos within the "safe range" a fuel cut defender is not needed.
Maybe someone can add a bit more info to this.

Then again I have been running 18-20psi boost on the stock turbos for over a year and they are still going strong. There is a huge difference in power between 10 and 20 psi. I really don't know where the "safe" figure comes from, I am sure some have blown turbos at lower boost as well.
