i did an oil change on my 1jz yesterday and now there is a knocking noise in the engine.

it sounds like its in the head area.

the best way to describe the noise is a noisy lifer that wont go away.

the exhaust note is still the same with no poping or coughing and the engine still idles great.

is this possible that a lifter has played up??

would love some thoughts and suggestions

i could probable record the noise on my phone if some one really wants to hear it

what oil? made sure you put 5 litres in obviously?

Stick your head on either Rocker cover and see which side it's coming from. (watch the FAN!)
This happened to me when I used Mobil 1 0/40.
The left Cam made a noise. Use a thicker oil like mobil 1 10/30..

Make sure it's not the injectors clicking/buzzing lol.

Could be many things. Many topics on this knocking from the engine itself.

Mine turned out to be the cam lobes, so still saving for a full head recon, with a few new goodies in there though.

yeah i made sure it got 5l of fuchs titan super gto 10w-40.

it sounds like its from the inlet side about 3 or 4 cylender from the front.

defiatly to loud to be injectors its a pretty loud knock.

my mech is going to come over and have a listen and see what he reckons. if it is lifters where is the best place to get them from??

also cam seals and everything thats required to do the lifters.

1j don't have lifters, there are buckets and shims

Probably not at this point. Muzzie may have been suggesting that a flush might have dislodged some sludge that was in fact keeping the engine quiet.
