A week ago I was driving when i noticed my car starting to overheat, so naturally i turned the car off, looked under my hood and saw a little steam/smoke coming from my head area. The car was around 5 minutes from home and was pulled over in a location where it was bound to be hit soon. So i waited and hour, and drove it home (dont tell me im stupid, i know i am) the car didnt overheat before i got home, but i noticed my turbos were spooling but i was getting not one bit of boost. There was also no smoke coming from my exhaust. Cooling problem was my water pumped snapped literally in half, but now im wondering what the loss of power could be? Any advice for what i should do to find out or what it could be as i dont have the cash to fork out to a mechanic? Thanks in advance, Mark

COuld have popped an intercooler hose off, or split a hose on the boost side of things..
I would firstly fix the water pump, and do timing belt and new tensioner at the same time
Does it run on all cylinders, ie not missing?
Maybe try a compression test to make sure you havent done the head gasket or cracked the head ( very unlikely).
Possible chance the turbo's could have blown. Remove the front exhaust section just before the CAT and check for any turbine wheels or bits and pieces. But i would wait until you do Water pump, and check all boost lines and hoses first.
Good Luck.

what it could also be is the fact your turbos are cooled via water cooling. if you have lost water, the turbos may have over heated and cannot create lots of boost. also as daniel said, check your head gasket and compression test and maybe do an oil change to see if there is any water in the oil. Water will sit on top of the oil as it is lighter and may form bubbles on the surface of the oil depending on how much there is. if that turns out to be the case. try to avoid driving your car as that can cause damage in your engine. because if there is a little bit now, it will only get worse.

Thanks for all the advice, Andrew i think you were right, as i replaced all my coolant with that red toyota stuff, got my radiator done and waterpump and thermostat (may aswell do cooling all at once). Now the turbos are kicking in fine again, so must have just been hot. Thanks for all the help guys.

mark, your problem sounds exactly what im going through at the moment... hopefully ill have a happy ending like you once ive done my water pump.
heres my story.. if anyone can help it would be great.
i knew my water pump was gone a few weeks ago but have continued to drive a little as i need the car to get around... i fill up radiator as required so as to prevent overheating. car was boosting normally...
now, a few days ago turbos just didnt work at all... i can still hear them spool with an unhealthy sounding scraping noise but no boost. they were whining a bit before that but i just assumed that was normal... sometimes whine sometimes not. i havnt seen any white smoke apart from smoking on startup from condensation. i dont drive it at all now because i fear turbos are gone.
mark, whereabouts did you do your waterpump and for how much?
