According to the posts ive read over the last few months a single turbo conversion is going to cost between $4-$5000.
by browsing/shopping trademe in NZ im wondering if it can be done for a lot less, please feel free to fill in the blanks of parts needed for a powerful but sensible single turbo conversion from a stock TT. (approx 250-280rwkw)

Warren, have the turbo been tested? what sort of boost can it handle? what rpm will the boost start to kick in? I would be very careful when it comes to buying turbo's, wastegates ...any moving parts that are cheap. Unless the seller has supporting results.
What you're listing here is still far from a complete kit. Let me give you some ideas on the parts you've missed;
*Oil return (pipe and hose and flange) ~ $120 *3/4inch oil hose 2metres & 3/4inch brass fitting (for the ICV valve & oil breather) ~ $110 *Water hose and fittings ~ $100
Not to mentions other bits and pieces like secondary oil feed block plug, hose clamps etc... Also, intake pipe and downpipe.
I've gone through 3 different single turbo setups and I know no matter how you plan your set up, you'll find that you always go over budget.
I'm putting together a complete and I mean complete single turbo kit for the 1JZ and aiming at 2K for the price. Before I say anything else, I'll wait for the dyno result and a 1/4mile time to back it up.
I've tested one T3/T4 turbo and it failed on me. I won't mention where I got the turbo from but be very careful when choosing a turbo.

its the small things that smash a budget into pieces...... and as for the record, as of next month, the only thing left from my original hypergear transplant will be the manifold (even that may go).....
a proper wstegate that actually works is $500... a proper turbo that works starts at $1000++ a proper draining will cost you $120 Labour is a total of around $2000 with the tune (trust me, these cheap kits need excess modiying) a non stuffed manifold is at the $650++ mark (that includes a $250 unit modified)
how about the small stuff? air filter piping, filter itself, BOV welded flange, clamps, blanket, heat wrap, possibly injectors and pump....
i got one thing to say, grab yourself a trust kit for $5k and dont look back....ever
Nothing is more annoying like when Cihan had the car on the dyno, and the wastegate getting welded stuck shut before the first run..... thank goodness the ledgend still pulled of 268rwkw on factory 380cc's (tuning on part throttle as well)

The turbo is probably just one of those dodgy chinese units (read up about the Chinese Ebay CT12a turbos on here).
I have never heard of one of those cheap manifolds fitting properly either. They ALWAYS need some sort of modifications.
Fitting and tuning of an aftermarket computer would probably be $300-500. Labour to remove the stock turbos and fit the single setup could quite easily cost another $1000.
Like Charlie said theres also all the other small bits which will add up + custom cooler piping etc
160 dollar waste gate... good luck with that too... it will jam open/closed and your boost will be uncontrolled.. it only needs to do this for 1 second to totally destroy your engine.

I got mine from ebay (can't remember the seller off hand, will have to check my history). Fit right first time. One of my mates is a welder/fabricator and even he said he couldn't do a better job than what was already done on it. Only mod needed was to shave a tiny bit (about 2mm) out of the flange to accomodate some other goodies that will be in the engine bay. But seeing most people don't go down that route, it won't be a hassle for the majority!

Well I guess theres a first for everything! Was it a local manufacturer or imported though?
I know you can get manifolds from people like Snort and 6boost that fit well on ebay, but I have seen a lot of issues with the cheap imported manifolds on various engines not just 1JZ’s.

The man is correct !
I had some dodgy Just Jap (CRAP) / JJR wastegate when i did my single conversion and it was a bucket of crap.
The car kept overboosting on the dyno and even when we changed the spring to a smaller one (.7bar) it still boosted well over 20 PSI.
This JJR crap wastegate added substantial costs to my conversion as it chewed up soo much time on the dyno and labour costs to get it replaced with a Tial item (OH and dont forget the cost of the Tial !!)
I couldnt even get a refund for the wastegate as the guy i bought the whole kit off didnt have the reciept.
I wish their workshop burnt down instead of just being ripped off a few weeks ago

James its true mate.. ive had my single on there for close to 2 years now. I have only just faced my first problem... A cracking manifold. That was the only part i skimmped out on.. even though it cost ateleast $500 when it was modified. Its a chinese stainless item. If i went the 6boost one for 1300 i would never even have an issue and would make more power also. I will get this one welded up for now, but no doubt it will crack again. when i go to a larger turbo, then i will get a propper 6boost manifold to suit

I"m testing out a chinese made wastegate at the moment the 60mm one. This one seems pretty good. the finish is up there, just not sure about the performance. Will find out soon

add the additional required harnesses and your looking about 800 landed
Is it 'reqired' is it was just to aid installation being vehicle specific? I was under the impression that the emu came with a generic flying lead harness that can be hardwired into the stock loom? Please correct me if I'm wrong!
