i recently got my tt 1jzgte soarer serviced and the mechanic told me that me front and rear cam seals need to be replaced. is it easy to source these parts and if so a rough price would be good. cheers for any feedback

Nathan
I think I may have the front seals at home. I will check tonight if I remember. I think they were around the $20 to $30 mark, if memory serves me correct.

just making sure we are talking about the same thing. the mechanic quoted me 600$ to source the parts and install them. is this an appropriate figure or is there a much cheaper and easier alternative ?? like getting the seals myself and paying for install only ??

surely we are not talking about the cam cover gaskets are we ?
Im a little confused. my cam cover gaskets were crap a while ago also , i bought some from Toyota for less than $30 and they took me about 1HR to install at a very casual speed.

James, I concur. Definitely not a $600 job!! I assumed it was the front and rear cam seals, round rubber o-ring type seals, two for the front and two for the rear. I think I paid around $15 each for the front ones, and the rears are probably about the same. If you want mine you can have them for $20 posted. But I'm going on holidays on Sunday for a week and won't be able to send them till after the 21/9. If you need rears ones as well you're probably better off getting them all from Castle Hill Toyota as they probably have them ex-stock. The part number for the front seals is 90311-38041. Not sure about the rears. And it's probably worth getting new cam cover gaskets as well. Easy job, any goose with two left hands could do this themselves, save yourself $500 of that $600 quoted by your mechanic for some other mods. I'm not the most mechanical of people myself, but I'm continually amazed at how easy these cars are to work on! There's not much that I wouldn't be game to try, especially with the wealth of knowledge thats available through searching this forum.
