Ive got a t-66...

It looks like im going to be buying a MKIV supra next summer so I dont need two beastly cars... so im saving the t66 for the supra.

I want a turbo that will lay down 320-350 on pump gas, (gt30) Im not going to go r154 anymore so im sticking with the auto.

I just bought a safc, but now that my goal is only 320-350hp, Is it possible to make that kind of power with the stock injectors/fuel control?

Oh p.s.
the t66 is currenley on the car. It also has an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Honstley Im just looking for a car that can trap 110+ and be a daily driver without the auto trans dying.

Gentlemen,
What should I do?

110MPH is achievable with stock turbos dude, however you are right, a GT3037/3076/3082 ect (So many different freakin' numbers) will all easily pull 110MPH so it should be easy!

Maurice, 115.3mph was the highest we've seen with stock turbo's wasn't it?

Simba, stock injectors will make 260rwkw with standard rate and base pressure (1:1, ~38-40psi) running a piggyback or standalone computer. Leaning things out into danger territory with some more boost i made 290rwkw with my old 1J :-)

IMO the best turbo for the 1JZ = GT35 + 0.63 rear housing and a 48mm+ wastegate on a well sorted manifold (good gate flow). I have seen 30psi at circa 4000rpm making enough torque to burn stock auto clutches in seconds.

Diggler i heard that was possible on stock turbos. But I want a turbo that can trap 110+ that wont kill my stock auto (with a trans cooler and shift kit).

Mr, Aday, i thought about the gt35r(80 something ar) but that would put me in the high 400whp range (370rwkw) Yes I could turn he boost down, but then id be wasting a larger turbo, and sacrificing a little low end compared to a 3076?}

Simba, no such thing as wasting a larger turbo unless its too big. The GT35R at 350whp on a 1J is sitting in its compressor efficiency island and so making good power easily. In comparison the GT30R is not sitting in its efficiency island, it is well past it and dropping efficiency quickly after that power range. GT30's are more suitable for a high powered 4 cylinder in my opinion.

The GT35R turbine with 0.6x rear housing flows the same as a GT30R turbine with a 0.8x rear housing. The 35R has a bigger turbine nozzle diameter and turbine wheel which contribute to that fact.

So, we're installing a compressor that fits the engines base flow characteristics better and we're making available a turbine + housing combination that is more than capable of handling 400 odd rwhp (Australian numbers / inertia type dynometer) without high RPM constriction / increased exhaust reversion, and we're doing it with a minimal reduction in boost response.

The larger wastegate and good manifold come in to play as an effort to further reduce the pressure buildup between the back of a closed ex valve and the turbine nozzle.

Even with the GT35R, 400whp with a *healthy* std cammed 1J takes a bit of boost, and i'd say 350-370rwkw is not happening without some relatively extreme measures.

The ideal 1J solution would be a GT35R + 0.63 rear housing, 48mm progate and a 4" dump pipe.

With the GT35 & .63 housing do not settle with the internal gated housing as the compressor will outflow and will continue to produce boost even with the internal gate fully open. A 48mm external wastegate is a must.
I found this the hard way. Had to change the housing and exhaust manifold and dump pipe, intercooler pipe etc...

I mean boost was still rising when the gate (internal) was fully open.

I already have an external gate :-). I think its a tial. I hate buying a car that had someone elces modifications, i dont know whats been done!

But a 35r sounds fine. I just need to stress that I do NOT want to blow my transmission. I wond be revving to 5k off the line and dumping it... the worse thing i would do is go full throttle at speeds as low as 20mph and stop at 130ish?

With just a trans cooler (no shift kit) and whatever boost it takes to make 320whp (320rwhp would not blow my auto trans will it?) what kind of 1/4 traps do you think id be making? 1/4 E/T's are way too subjective and more prone to bench error. My goal is 112-115, possible without risking trans damage?}

Simba, I think your are going to need more power to trap 110MPH over the 1/4 in a Auto soarer, Jeff Smith trapped 110MPH, with a ET of 12.77 and his car makes 270rwkw or 360whp, he also has a Shift Kit fitted which is really a must if you are going to Drag your Soarer as the slow gear changes will be the first think to begin the destruction of your tranny.

If your Tranny is in good condition with a shift kit fitted it will last, If it is a bit tied with a shift kit it will slowly die, and no shift kit equals death. If you need a shift kit I have unbeatable prices.

Now Cihan is on the money in the way of Turbo selection, the 35r with the small Hot side would kick ass although the the torque produced by the 35r when it comes online may be just enough to kill the tranny, where a 30r with a .84 hot side may be the difference of longevity for your tranny. It will still make the power figure your after to trap 110mph.

If your talking about rev you motor to 5000rpm and then pulling it into drive your going to do nothing but kill your tranny and your 60ft time are going to be Best of luck

You can stall a standard converter to over 3000rpm using your hand brake and foot hard on the brakes, do that and you will hook up well.

I dont trust dyno figures.. My turbo has had alot of bad reviews recently with nobody opting for a gt3082r... i dont know why as it has minimal lag and i get good trap speeds from it also. Another thing, a big company like HKS sold these as a kit with a 3040 (3082)./ why would a company that invests so much into research opt for a turbo that is not suitable?... makes you wonder

My dyno only said 285rwkw, yet i was able to trap 117mph. If 110mph is 270rwkwm then my 117mph should be more like 300. Also this was with the converter not locking up properly.

What im trying to say is dont dismiss this turbo as a good option. they are 600hp rated turbo

I have done an 11.94 at 115mph with 260KW ATW. Stock tranny with shift kit and stock turbo's, Daniel has similar times and power. Big power doesn't necessarily mean a quick car down the track.

Thats why i wanted a gt30, I want something not too far off from stock spool up. How long have you been running that power with trans?

For the last 12 months, forgot to add that I'm running 20-25 psi of boost as well. Still going strong. Why not high flow and steel wheel the stock turbo's? Cheaper than a single and probably quicker down the strip if set up correctly.

119mph here with 304rwkw, however you really have to know the weight of the vehicle as you can get a little thing like chris' corona that traps over 120mph and doesn't have 300rwkw.

My soarer weighed in at 1720kg (with me in it), so was a little on the heavy side.

Christian and Jeff I agree with you both dyno figures are a guide for tuning, I was using Jeff's car as an example just to show that 320whp(240rwkw) is not going to be enough to trap 110mph. That My 2 Cents.

I'm sure we all agree bigger power does make a quicker car aslong as the car is setup up to handle the power off the line (suspension and tyres). You need to get your 60 footers down to around 1.5sec to get quick et's but it won't make much difference to your trap speeds.

Christian, I think your turbo selection is the best for the power figures upto 300rwkw, I have just setup the exact turbo (GT3082r) on a mates 1jz soarer, 650cc injectors, Power FC, and all the rest of the supporting mods, It is only running 14psi of boost and pulls like a train, boost comes on hard at 2600rpm and pull hard all the way to 7500rpm.

Mate, It is coming along really good at the moment, The head has just had Major work done to it, Ports, Bowls and Combustion Cambers. The New short runner manifold has be Flowed and port matched fitted with a 90mm TB, the fuel rail is now a twin feed with a center return, I'm running a Microtech LT12S with a 35psi map sensor, just finishing setting up the LS2 coil conversion(I've seen a Blown 5.4lt ford in the US make over 2500hp using the same Coils (part no.) so there shouldn't be any issues) My Built Auto has arrived and I've upgraded to a 3500rpm stally. I need to fab the new 4" exhaust, then get ready to scare the out of my self. With some good fuel It should go somewhere near 450rwkw.

As said here... I have a Gt3037r(known as Gt30/71r) 650cc injectors,44m external Tial wastegate,Tom's ecu piggy backed by a powermod ecu,3 inch exaust, trans cooler, shift kit and tuned to 267kw's but dought this figure also as I did find a big boost leak on my throttle body and could explain why my trap speed was low....

The turbo is a garret not hks and the rear housing is .63
As for performance,The 30/37r is a great turbo and very responsive down low.. It runs out of puff(didnt produce anymore power after 18psi) with the .63 but is at full boost at 3000rpm @ 18psi.
Not a bad turbo that is very close to the stock turbo response. BUT I feal the .82 rear housing is what I should have got when I bought it... Now I have bought the .82 rear housing costing me $800 cash in the process,When I could of saved the $800 if I got it when I bought the turbo. Also to add,I will agree with Cihan as the gt35/40 would be the best setup with the .63 or .82 rear housing for the 1jz.. as it is a little more laggy but roughly the same as the 30/37 in response.... At the same time I do not regret my choice of turbo as my target power figure can be reached with the right rear housing... 300kw's is the target...

Now for the gearbox.... Well here is the hard truth.... "Don't be fooled in to thinking you box will be ok at this power level, even with a shift kit" It is a matter of time that you will be looking at a rebuild to be able to retain the power level or go manual,Either way it's going to hurt the hip pocket.... Start saving now mate as it is only a matter of time before this will happen... I had been running 267kw's for only 2-3 months then found my boost leak, fixed that and then the gearbox let go in just one day... Hahaha maybe the boost leak was preventing the box from letting go..... Oh well sh1t happens...
I had a choice to go rebuild or manual... I now have it in Neil's workshop giving it a sex change and going manual... Can't wait to get it back.

For the 300hp you are chasing... Then you won't have an issue getting that with the gt30/37r .63 rear housing.. 14psi should get you there... and won't have an issue with the gearbox.. But I will say you will need a shift kit as it is a must on any auto,Seriously you don't know what your missing as the shifts are fast and hard....
