well, recently a rattle sound has magically appeared from the turbo-side, i have takn it to one mechanic, and he reckons its the turbo (although this mechanic seems a bit $$$$ driven)... so when i put a screwdriver to hear the sound from the rear-side of the turbo cartride, the sound appears to be from there?

now the thing that confuses me most is that there is no shaft play (maybe a tad-back and foward).... :-(

turbo is also running fine (however, for the first time in ages, the car as gone through 250ml of oil on the dipstick... has anyone ever had a similar rattle which turned out being turbo based? or am i missing the point and something bigger is brewing :-(

Charlie, look at the back of your turbo beside your dump pipe, you will see the little round blanking plate for the internal wastegate. If that has become loose it will rattle like that when it's cold, once the car heats up it'll expand and stop rattling. Mine did the exact same thing so I got it spot welded and never rattled again, never fear, nothing is wrong, it's just slightly annoying, should take 5 seconds to fix.

One thing I did see with you video clip is that the turbine wasn't turning on idle.... Is it because it's a jurnal bearing turbo? As you know I have a garrett! and it turns on idle.. It is ball bearing.... Just wondering hay...

Great stuff Morg's,Look's like this a common problem with the tr44... Good to see this as the problem as it didn't sound too nice...

its been like this from day 1, escpecially when idle is at 750rpm, anything over, and it spins (maybe my turbo will live longer this way )

Mine doesnt spin at idle either... but that may be because i have a dirty LAG MONSTER T66 !!

All good though, my smaller rear housing (.68) is going on in a couple of weeks so that should bring my spool up times down a little. and YES i realise there may be some restriction on big boost.. but that is not my plan and im not chasing the "magical 300" so im not fussed.

its true.. she IS a monster. Im only running about 15/16PSI and i think im boring the turbo hahah , im pretty sure it wants to run an easy 25 or 30. Pity my engine would explode ! I certainly bit off more than i could chew with this turbo and i do regret my decision to go single....wooops

AHHH Well ill have a .81 single entry T4 rear housing soon if anyone is chasing heheh

Glad to help Charlie, just get it spot welded and all will be sweet, I just recently upgraded to a TR44i with .84 rear housing and it doesn't have any of the internal gate provision... It's so much neater and I don't have to wirry about this anymore :-)

Congrats on your newly found pile of cash lol... Wish I had your problem hahahahaha.

haha no worries. I'm at Rockdale, weekend staff.
I reckon we should swap the colts for the soarer. All the deliveries would be on time that way ;)
