(LONG SIGH) Okay, here's my dilemma. After 3 weeks of waiting for my water pump to arrive I finally installed it and got everything back together. Now this is my first time ever in life dealing with changing a timing belt on any car that i have ever owned. Good thing is the car turned over and idled fine on the very first try. I left it running for a few minutes, and then I revved her up and everything was fine. Now, when I jumped in the car and was about to take her for a spin; I pulled out the driveway and when i put my foot on gas, she had absolutely no power. She would not go past 12 km/h and whenever I try to push the gas harder to give her power she sputters, but the thing is, she doesn't shut off. This is puzzling the hell out of me. What can possibly be the problem.

Sounds like the timings out (valve) did you turn the engine over(clockwise)after fitting belt to check the timing ?

no i didn't turn the engine over clockwise after fitting the belt. But why is it that the car would start so easily on the first go. I pray to God I didn't damage anything.

Sorry Patrick but it looks that way , yes they still run with a tooth out ...in fact if it out the right way they run smoother at tick over.
See if the marks line up...but only turn it clockwise if you pass the mark keep going till it comes round again, this makes sure there is no backlash between the crank and cams.
I am sure you have not damaged anythink, good luck

But see that's the thing about it. The cams line up at TDC. Could it be possible that the cams are lined up and the crank is off a tad?
Thanks alot for your help guys.

Check all the simple things too - I missed reconnecting a plug lead when I did my timing belt last time and almost shat myself - couldn't tell anything was wrong at idle either.

my brother was saying that too, so, i'm not as fortunate as you guys with your luxurious garages so I have to wait until the sun comes up. I'll check that tomorrow and see what goes from there. But my question still remains: Could it be possible that the cams are lined up and the crank is off a tad?

If the crank is showing TDC 0 degrees on the harmonic balancer, and both cams line up, then no, its not possible for the crank to be off (unless its a full 180 degrees out, in which case the car wouldn't start)

Thats from a mechanical POV at least (the angle sensor could be faulty though?) - the harmonic balancer is keyed so it will only go on one way.

excuse the roughness of the drawing. but the cams need to be lined up with the marks on the backing cover thing

and the harmonic balancer/crank pulley need to be lined up at 0 degree's TDC

you may have to dummy fit the plastic cover with the markings on it to line up the crank pulley

Yeah Shane thanks. That's the problem right there I think. Because I noticed the cams were at 12:00 and the crank, I don't think was on zero. I think it was basically on the 12:00 position also. But that's puzzling the shat out of me because why would the dam car start and run?
