Gday guys, cutting to the chase here, my car seems to have a few problems that come and go.

The first is that after driving for a while my check engine light comes on, it mainly happens when im driving at lowish revs, so im often changing down a gear and driving in a too high a rev range just so the light doesnt come on.(i have a 5speed).

The second problem seems to be a misfire when im above around 4000rpm, it happens when I'm accelerating with around half throttle or more, all boost pressure dies and it sounds like its misfireing. It doesn't happen all the time though, i may go a few days or a week with full power then it will return.

I'm going to change sparkplugs and check coilpacks tomorrow does anyone else have any ideas what could be causing my problems ?? I am quite worried.

P.S i tried searching the forum but couldnt come upon anything.

Thanks guys.

Nope the light only comes on while driving, and only after half an hour or so. If i turn the car off its gone and wont come back again for some time.

Ok checked the sparkplugs and they seem fine, it seems to happen more after a kick of the clutch or a burnout.

Coilpacks needs replacing maybe ?

had that misfiring too. get some second hand coilpacks to see if it fixes it. then i would be checking the ignitor, if it still happens, it probably be a fuelling issue.

no idea about the engine light. checked the oil level recently?

Oil Level is fine, maybe even a little to high. Running standard boost i think, has a bosch fuel pump so i dont think its running out of fuel.

Will change the plugs this weekend, if that doesnt help, new coilpacks it is.

Thanks for the help guys.

A little bump, Changed my oil and sparkplugs and she was running beautiful......But the misfire is back.

WOuld it be coilpacks ?? Because it comes and goes i was under the impression if i had faulty ones it would be a constant thing.

What sensor could it be danny ? and how much am i looking at to replace it ?

Did the coilpacks have any hairline cracks in them at all?

Are the plastic connectors still making contact with the coilpacks ok? These perish over time.

My replaced ones looked the same as the ones that didn't work. No cracks on the actual stalk piece, but small cracks where the screws are.

Get some second had ones Lindsay. For reference, I picked up a set of 6 which were second hand for I think $150. It solved my case.

Araldite super strength solved all my coil issues. Takes 3 days to get to max strength apparently, but has higher temperature resistance than the 5min stuff. Mine had cracks down shaft, under the rubbers and around the mounts too.

Did you check error codes?

What he said.

It will lead you to the problem. Has been covered many times on here and guides on how to do so also available
