Hey guys

Got a bit of a problem for the last two day, when i unscrew the oil filler cap steam starts to come off the cap and out of the filler. Engine is not overfilled with oil, i checked so i have no idea why this is happening. Any help would be good as im a bit worried haha

Cheers

change your oil, is it steam, or is it smoke?

Its hard to tell if its steam or smoke. Only noticed it yesterday after washing the car and was detailing the engine bay. Yeah oil is due for a change as its done 4500kms on Motul Turbolight. Might have to drop it earlier and see how we go.

Is this a sign of serious problems though or just that the oil is shaggered?

Yeah never seen it on any of my previous cars and first time on the Soarer. I was thinking it was just water vapour as the engine was hot and i had just washed the car but that would explain why it happened only after opening the filler. Its got me pretty worried though as it seems very unsual. Cooling system seems fine so i dont think the car is over heating. No idea really.

Moisture can collect in the oil, take it for a long drive then see if it still happens.

I would not worry to much about it unless the oil is getting milky. The engine will get pretty hot under normal operating conditions. Just keep changing the oil as normal.

Yeah im just wondering why its started happening all of a sudden, didnt happen before so something must have changed or happened to make this occur. Cant wait to finish uni and wire up my oil temp guages then i should know whats happening.

Are you sure you just have not noticed it before, if you had been driving it hard prior to checking it would be more likely to happen.

Could be possibly be due to stuffed turbos?

to me its normal, i service many cars a day, and when they are hot they all emit a trace of smoke from the filler, its just exhaust gases that have managed to get there way into the crankcase, thats why you have crankcase ventilation.

Dont worry about it, its perfectly normal

David, you possibly need a new Seal for the Oil Cap :-) Toyota part or just get a nice big O ring .. I had the same issue with the oil stains, now they are gone thanks to a big o ring .

Yeah i was thinking the seal might be done and had a squizz at it. Thats fine ill do that but wanna find out the heart of the problem rather than mask it. Ill see how a change of oil goes and a new oil filler cap.

The breather off the valve cover is not blocked by any chance?

yeah the part you are looking for is on the right rocker cover, about half way down, it has a rubber grommet and the plastic valve pushes into it, pull it out and clean it, it should rattle, now there is also a tube going to the intake of the turbos, make sure it connected and not kinked. cheers

what your describing is perfectly normal...i see it every day at work just like scott has said allready, changing your oil or cap wont change anything, and there is no need as there is no harm being done
