hey guys im a newbie to this site so correct me if im going about this the wrong way. recently a had my rear turbo spit a back wheel(only running 10psi) so have decided to go single. i have a manifold that i have had braced etc for strength so thats not a prob. the prob is that i dont know what size to use. I have been given a Holset H1e turbo(allegedly the same as hx40) and am wondering if this would do the trick. any tips or pointers would be much apreciated Cheers

Aaah, the dreaded rear turbo fails again.
Daniel, Google Holset H1e and you'll find a heap of information.
Does the Holset bolt directly to your braced manifold? There's quite a bit involved exhaust-system wise when you go to a single. Not difficult, but needs to be done nicely.
Whatever you do, keep all your standard turbo stuff in a box. you never know when you might decide to go back to standard. The beauty of the standard set up is that the two small turbos spool up very quickly and make power right up to a reasonable rev limit. Changing gears at 6,500 rpm or less keeps the engine young. there are lots of threads showing how to get increased power out of a stock system just by installing a fmic and other relaltively simple things that don't make your car look like a hotrod.
In most cases you have so little lag that drivers unfamiliar with the Soarer don't realise they're turboed.
No doubt though that a big single will really get you going if all-out performance is your goal.

cheers mate. my manifold has a t4 flange so no probs mid bolting it on. Exhaust isnt realy a problem either as i am a light fabrication engineer(apprentice) so i can fab up the exhaust myself. i googled h1e and it is rather similer in flow and wheel sizes (although probly not as efficient) as a garrett gt40r. correct me if im wrong but too me that is probly a reasonably good size. would a safc be sufficient for the mean time before I can get my hands on a link or emanage. engine has done about 20,000 since rebuild so is relitively fresh

yea I have been thinking and I would like to revive the twins for a while just until my warrent runs out. I have replaced the rear turbo know with a spare(thanks trademe) but car isnt boosting. I searched about boost problems and checked all those things and all thats left is maybe a preasure leak. the reason I say that is that both turbos are blowing air and it has a small amount of power but is nothing compared with before. will preasure test intercooler this week but thats the last thing I can think of

I drove it just after I replaced the turbos with no exhaust(just dumps and down pipe) and it was the same. tested it intercooler today and has no leaks so I am guesing that maybe once again a turbo is gone(rather loud but inconsistant whining on what should be boost). anyway thats not what this thread is about so I better not keep going on. but any other would be apreciated

best idea would be to ring a few turbo mobs, tell them what you've got and what matches a 2.5lt 1jz.
Tell them your going to be putting a large intercooler, exhaust and EBC on and that you want some decent power and response. KKR does some decent turbo configs and if you find the queensland distrubutor they can tell you a good lot about what to use.
