Hi,. my mates TT had an engine "noise"We pulled off the top timing cover and sprayed the timing belt with a silicon spray. the noise dissappeared, but we noticed missing teeth on the timing belt. We replaced the timing belt, water pump and timing tensensior pulley, but still have the "noise". It goes when the timing belt is sprayed with a silicon spray. We suspect the bearing on the drivers side cam, but cannot understand why spraying the belt stops the "noise". Any ideas???????

hard to describe, ( similar to a bearing noise)but it also leads you to spray the belt with silicon and the noise dissapears. Had thoughts that it could be the drivers side bearing at the front of the cam, but cannot explain why spraying the belt fixes the problem

sounds like a worn cam tensioner, bearing to methe cam pully bearings are actually cam bearings so it wont be them.. did you spin the tensioner when before you fitted it again.
it is the right belt yes? cam pullys not worn are they? but dont spray ya belt with silcone mate.. i had it a lot of times on just belts.. as soon as you wash the engine the noise goes away.. try the bearing mate. you did crank pully up tight? is the little guide plate on crank installed the correct way facing out..

pulled the harmonic balancer off again and moved the timing belt in a fraction. i think it may have rubbing on the guide plate. reassembled and everything seems to be ok
