ok here we go again more problems and no money to have it looked at! ok well i swear my coolant has been leaking and i figured there was a problem my coolant tank emptied out one day, so i filled it up and took it for a drive came back to see if anything was leaking, nothing!. so i was like ok and didnt think bout it cause over the 2 days i was checking it but no leaks?... anyway lately i filled the radiator up with water etc, drove it around, for about 45 came back, my coolant was half filed, after 45 minutes of driving i came back lifted the bonnet, and opened the cap and the water was all gone, and the coolant bottle was overflowing and bubbling,? i got no idea whats going on and i cant afford to have it put up on ramps and looked at...anyone know this problem or have this problem?

Make sure you check the condition of the under side of the radiator cap if it is damaged the coolant will empty itself under pressure. If the engine oil is milky then you can be pretty confident it will be the head gasket.

Head gaskets are fairly rare, they seem pretty tough. Get a leak down test done on the cooling system. If you can't afford that then I would just give up now and trade it for a Corolla.

oh ok were can i have one done? what they cost?... i did check the oil today its not milky at all looks nice and clean?... i'm not really sure what else could cause my water to empty from the radiator hoses, and overfill the coolant bottle, my only other thought would be a blockage, my radiator cap is fine by the way

if the coolant is milky that can also signify a head gasket. in general, these radiators need a good flush after a few years. they fill up with a lot of crap that hinders the flow. If you don't know what you are doing get a professional to have a look at the radiator. Perhaps have a general service done on the car so that you know where you stand. It sounds like you have a little work in front of you & you don't want to be spending too much time & money troubleshooting. I'm sure the WA boys can recommend a place for a general checkup

| Hey Ty, where abouts in WA are you mate? I just had my radiator for my other car a Celica GT-Four done at Natrad, it only cost me $350 which basically left me with a completely new tank (top tank was cracked) and a flushed and brilliantly working cooling system. I would really recommend getting a specialist such as Natrad to look into the issue, I think you'll find it won't be too expensive. As far as your servicing and stuff goes, I use a guy by the name of Tristen Hewitt. He isn't a Soarer specialist. He generally deals with MR2's and GT-Four's but he REALLY knows his stuff mate. He is a Toyota enthusiast through and through and I have seen a couple of TT Soarer's in his workshop (aswell as my Supercharged V8 ) so I would say give him a buzz, he offers great advice, very decent rates and he won't mess you about (which is a big problem with mechanics these days). He is a very trustworthy bloke. His details are below and he is based in Kelmscott which if you don't know is South, only about 30 mins or so from the city. Not too far out in the hills. | 1. I would recommend you take your car in to a reputable engine rebuilder and get the gas radiator test, this will tell you if you have engine gases in your radiator. (forget what its called). 2.Radiator leak down test. But before this Ty, fill your radiator with water at a cold start and watch for rising bubbles. If you have bubbles, you may have a gasket problem. If all these tests pass, while your there look into the radiator flush, or new radiator. The cost of the tests will not add much to the overall cost and is good for peace of mind. Good luck bud! |

Thats good news, i would say your out of jail with the gasket thing. Not to put a downer on it, but my holden once blew a gasket with no obvious symptoms except for water wasting. Similar to your case. The radiator gas test got me, failed with flying colours. Leak down wasnt even a conclusive result. But thats a holden. (common problem) See you around Ty, I'm sure its ok!

arggh i think my worst fears have come to light!!! i run my car around all seems ok and fine, when i get home, i lift the bonnet up as the turbo timer is still doin the countdown, i open the coolant and the radiator cap all looks normal, then when the turbo cut outs then the problems arise i can hear bubbling probably the coolant bottle then in little bursts the radiator starts how do i describe this... like vomiting... Lol, it spews up a little stops then spews up again, it still progresses for a minute but gets shorter between each spew as it comes to a stop... does this seem like a common problem or am i looking at new gasket?

When the engine stops, the water pump stops. There is still pressure in the cooling system. That would be normal strait after you turn the car off,.. hence why they say dont remove radiator cap when car is hot as system will still be pressurised.
