Okay,
So here it is about 2 months later, I have my waterpump installed but my car started to overheat again. When I stopped and popped the hood, I was checking for the obvious leaks and also checking under the car to see if any water was leaking out there.
Anyway, I popped the hood this morning to check and see if I needed to top of the radiator...in which I did. Maybe under a quarter bottle from yesterday morning until this morning. As I was driving to work this morning I had to make a stop at a parts store. I opened the hood and I noticed a little hairline stream of cooloant running from the top of the pump but it wasn't to noticeable because it dried quickly.
Noooooowwwwwww.....what could the problem be?

My only diagnosis is; I hadden gotten a fan blade from another engine....I think a 2jz, because my original fan had cracked up with age. The fan that I replaced it with was a bit thicker than the original so if I sat it flush on the pulley it would hit the water hose. So what I did...being the bush mechanic that I am....placed a nut on each stud that holds the clutch fan to the pump to kind of space it away from the hose. So I am assuming now that what is happening is maybe there is some play causing the fan to wobble and create a leak....I don't know. I looked at the fan while the car was running and it looks fine. I am so confused and I am not really into shelling out another 300 bucks for a waterpump....HELP!!!

Do it properly the first time, would've saved you all the hassles. Genuine all the way or the next best, a second hand one. Do they use gaskets?

Yeah they do. I bought the Genuine Toyota Water pump. It comes in two parts with the gasket. They come already put together. I was thinking maybe I should've taken it apart and put some silicone on to make it a bit more water tight. I'll do that this weekend then.

Pat,
there is another option which I followed with great success on my drag car and that is to fit a Davies Craig electric water pump and EWP controller. It is not a soarer purist approach and there's a bit of mucking around but it does work well. PM me if you want further details.
cheers David

the standard water pump is fine.
Id say you overtightened the bolts when you fitted it and that cracked it.
or you just didnt fit it properly...

Oh and the only reason i said buy a honda is because my friend's old man bought a 2001 Honda Civic GLI brand new... he still has it and its done 280 000km now and NOTHING major has gone wrong with it.

No gearbox, radiator, CV, Engine, Suspension OR ANYTHING problems

Just keeps it serviced at the required intervals.

Anyways,,,,, best of luck with it all brother
