Guys I have a question regarding the Chinese copies of the CT12a.
How do you identify them?
I have a couple of sets of CT12a's at the Moment with steel exhaust wheels, 1 set was built by GCG and the other set I don't know the history of.
Now both sets are running the smaller CT9 exhaust wheels, my question is, Did the chinese copies run the smaller turbine wheel or were they full size? Also does anyone one have any pics of the Chinese copies?

hey Richard, give GCG a call & see what they have in stock, or what they can do for you. http://www.gcg.com.au/ I had my hybrids built by them & they have been great. If nothing else, they will be full of great advice.

A guy I know who worked at Garrett told me that no turbo's built in China to Chinese specs were worth anything and should be avoided at all costs.
The only exceptions were when some of the manufacturers (probably even Garrett) get some components made in China to their own original drawings and their own metallurgy requirements.
For example, I do know that a very high concentration of nickel is required in the steel used to manufacture shaft and turbine assemblies and when a Chinese factory makes these items for Australian, European or American companies, those companies specify the nickel content and then do QA on every batch to make sure they're not being dudded.
I would never knowingly buy Chinese tools or machinery where quality was of importance.
The chinese companies copy these items and sell them on Ebay and other outlets, and they look exactly the same but don't have the nickel content because nickel is really expensive.
Chinese exporters of all products have worked out that consumers in the West are driven by price not quality, and they are just satisfying that market.
