okay dont laugh, but this car has quite a significant number of problems :-) haha
the soarer has just been given to me, lying around a mates house for a number of months,

i need a good mechanic and someone to tell me if these problems are serious or easy to rectify.

ok lets start problem 1
1.Drive Belt Cracked
2.Power Steering Resivoir Leaking,Possible Hoses?
3.Steering Rack Appears to be leaking internally, cam seals appear to be leaking, replace cam and crank seals and timing belt??..

also i need to know how i go about washing from underneath to car the determine were theres oil leaking from? where do i get that done,

4.and the big problem(possibly) oil leaking from rear turbo.

and 5. i need new coil packs haha!

the other day i noticed it was leaking coolant and the whole bottle emptied within 2 days or so, so i refilled it, go all the air out but stopped leaking so i dunno?.

i didnt do this myself, it was a service done just before i got it?, i know theres a few problems but i would like to get this baby back up and running and fix everything before i start, putting stuff on it, FMIC,Exhaust, and then the single turbo conversion :-).

its gonna be alot of work and money but id love to have this beat back up to full again.

thanks for your help guys! :-)

1 buy a new belt,i bought gates racing drive belt for 59 dollars

2 the bottle will not cost you too much, i guess around 10-20dollars?

3 take it to a mechanic and they can ask some one special in recondition the steering rack. it will cost you around 300 dollars

4 i think Patric Chan got a set of turbo for sale, just see Parts for sale section

5 Parts for sale Section as well

haha

good luck

u make it sound like its easy fixes?, or am i getting a bit paranoid over nothing? haha, im worried tough the other night it started looking coolant and then the next day it was empty so i filled it up with water, squeezed the hose a few times, warned it up took around the block but it wasnt leaking?, surely if it was leaking it would continue to leak it wouldnt just be a one of thing would it? im worried to drive it cause when it leaked it wasnt just *drip drip* it was constant 2 -3 drips constant non stop, but when i filled it with water nothing? so im gonna put it up on the ramps today and have a look. hopefully get back to u :-) thanks for the help, if anyone has anything extra to add let me know :-) thanks for help!

A good mechanic is Joe in Wangara (mobile master 0408 935 700) He's in the same place as Kensei Garage. Comes highly recommended from pretty much every soarer owner in Perth haha. Coil packs are pricey but they are by far your biggest problem so sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal haha

300-370 to install coil packs is a rip off, should not take more then 1hr tops..

what i would suggest is get new coil packs dont bother with old ones..

the packs are like 15years old so, replace with new then you will never have to worry about them again..

get the coil packs new from the us. get them from elmhurst toyota. and also get new placstic clips to go with that.

i think it cost me 600 to my door for 6 packs and clips. little pricey, but well worth it in the end..
cheers

just replace all 6, it is like changing only 5 plugs and not all 6.

you might only need 4 coils, but how far behind are the rest? been on there the same amount of time, if you get my drift.

do it right the first time i say

Wow that is an absolutely criminal quote! considering its easier than changing the spark plugs! I would also recommend buying new coil packs even though your wallet will cry real tears lol almost all second hand coils are cracked anyway so unfortunately new is best. I also have to change mine so I feel your pain.

I'm curious about the turbo, is the car blowing smoke? or is the oil leaking from the turbo housing itself? could it possibly just be a leaking oil feed/drain? could be a cheaper fix than new turbos :-)

the car has never had any problems apart from trying to boost cause of the coil packs unfortunatly so it just misfires :-).. the car has never blown smoke. i dont know enough bout it to have checked out.. but u can see the oil from the conection to the turbo so it could be a cheap fix like u say :-),

until i get some cash i cant do anything haha, anyone here know how to change coil packs? is the coil packs the cords and wires on top or the plugs u pull out to get to the spark plugs?

i have seen plugs cause a problem, cause they dont clip on, but it is more likely the coil's
either way if you decide to do the coils do the spark plugs and the coil plugs at the same time. all new saves you pluuing them back out again, i know it a bit of money, but spend it once and spend it wisely

To find out where the leaks are coming from, best option is to degrease it. Drive it around then have a look. Dont be afraid to take some photos.

If the coilpacks are cracked just repair them with some araldite or heat shrink, mine were repaired over a year ago and are still going strong (car ran a 12.2 1/4mile last week so they must be holding up ok). Cost me around $8.00

If the coil packs are stuffed, and you are really on a budget......

A number of 1JZs in the UK (mostly in drift cars) are running wasted spark kits intended for the Skyline, which are a lot cheaper than 6 new Toyota coils.

If the kit is too expensive, I've seen, somewhere, instructions for making your own wasted spark set up using inexpensive (or used) coils. Check the Skyline forums.
