wow, that sux dude.

Only thing i can think of is that the previous owner ran it low on oil, screwed the bearings and then maybe filled it back up and offloaded it.

I think you found your big power problem! That's
very unlucky, on the bright side you should be able to get a motor for less than $500.00 (no turbos) or just pick up a 2j bottom end.

I agreed. Neglect is the killer :-(
Sorry to hear about your engine loss.

Daniel Savage has alot of 1js for sale.

Where abouts in bonnyrigg do you live Leo?
I grew up around there :-)

I agree the title of this thread was correct and ended up in a big bang

rob what is involved in getting a 2j bottom end and putting it in on a 1j head is it just plug and play per say or is there parts that will have to be modified, i think i will go with the engine swap option and just finish it at that but now its looking for a motor that will be my problem finding one from sydney.

Mate I don't believe that the conrod was the point of failure, sounds more like you had a melted/seized piston that let go, in turn braking the con rod, I've seen some big power 1jz with over 500hp at the crank and never have a conrod issue, you can push a 2jz to over 800hp on STD rods and 1jz rods are stronger....

As for getting a 2jz bottom end as Rob said, I think you will find you will need more then a bottom end, your head will be FUBAR.... cracked, bashed, bent valves just a start. How many of you have seen the insides of a motor that has let go. not much is reusable, bolton are normally fine, although the rear turbo may be shot as metal may have made itself through the exhaust track. When you brake a rod you normally bend or crack the crank and smash the top end.

If you reuse you intake manifold get you injectors checked, I would not be surprise if your no.6 injector is clogged or not flowing the same as the rest of them. Causing the problem.

I thought it was time for an update so here goes

after the car being out of action for a week or so it is now back on the road, the engine has been replaced (thanks to Daniel savage for organising a spare engine on a short notice, he is the man for parts) and so has the gearbox and ecu, let me just say this new package seems to be healthy and alot smoother then my old motor. It was comps tested and was 150 to 145 across all cylinders and has been dynoed at 145rwkw at vinces dyno on 9.5 psi with a very nice curve on 3rd gear (o/d off). The car runs alot smoother now and feels like it wants to keep going power wise.

Regarding the other engine it will be stripped for parts gearbox will be sold as it was not the problem, turbos where in good condition they will be sold but the block has a large hold on the side of it where the pistons came out of, basically the rod had snapped in half after the piston had exploded.
