Hey guys, for about a week my car was playing up as if the battery was on its way out i replaced it and it kept doing it. Its like it doesnt have any charge, ive read up that a leaky power steering fluid can screw up the alternator is that just on the v8's or can it happen on the TT's as well. Or is it that my starter motor is cactus?

Do any other electronics work? Or are they all dead?

all the electronics still work like the battery is full, the engine has nearly done 200,000 kms so i dont know if there is anything major that might go at that amount of K's

have you got some more details about what it's doing? Does it make a ticking noise when trying to start, does it just not make any noises? If the starter motor has crapped it, it won't make any noise and replacement isnt very hard. I payed 110 for a secondhand starter and it's had no hassles. I was also quoted 220 for an exchange for a reco'd so the choice is yours.

yea it makes no noises, only noise it makes is from the rear some sort of pump i guess but go to turn it over and there is nothing at all, going to try to rip out the starter tomorrow and hopefully get a second hand one, thanks for your help

definitely the starter motor. the old trick is to tap it with a hammer or metal bar and it'll start.

rather then getting a new starter you can just buy the copper contacts that go inside.

they get worn down over the years (happened in my celica) its a simple as taking starter motor out. opening one end and maybe undoing 2 bolts.

and they cost about $3 each or something like that from an auto electrician. have a look when you replace your's craig

The noise you hear from the back is the fuel pump.

And yes it sounds like you have a bung Starter. have you also checked you alternator is charging your battery with a multimeter?

What is the CCA of the battery? (Cold crank amps)

Mine is 600 and it works fine anything under that you may have problems. 400 would be the very lowest I would go and on second consideration I think 600 would be the lowest I would personally want to go.
