Well it happened again. I really have a feeling the clutch fan has something to do with it. I am using a 2JZ fan on a 1JZ. Could that be the reason. And if it is, I am trashing the clutch fan and going with electric fans. Opinions on this please. As I am not a racer, living on a small where I drive when it's not so much traffic, would electric fans be ok? I searched and read but still haven't gotten a definite answer.
I guess to each his own ey?

i ran electric fans on my car for about 4 months, with no problem as long as they mounted properly and setup correct ie come on at right temp then, they are fine, just make sure you fit the biggest you can. i ran 2. cheers. but you still need a water pump ): is it really cold where you are? maybe the water is freezing and cracking it? do you have engough anti freeze anti boil?

i really think that's what it is. That's the only problem I can see. If there is just a slight off balance that can create stress on the pump right?
Since I changed the original fan to the 2jz fan that's when it all started. But anyway....I'm thinking about going electric. Who can recommend me some good fans. I wanna put 2 big boys in.

Over here in aus there is a twin thermo fan kit that is made for middle 90's falcons that fit almost perfectly on a soarer..

My old soarer just had one 15" fan on it, and that was fine. I'm pulling my clutch fan off in a few weeks to put my twin thermo's on. As said before, provided they come on at the right temp, you shouldn't have any problems.

Hi Patrick,
I've used electric fans on Toyota's for years and they work fine. I'd run two smaller ones that fully cover the radiator and have two separate controllers, one to come on first and if still hot the second one comes on. Don't set the temps too low as fans don't do any cooling much over 40 kph and the natural airflow does the job perfectly. No point in running the fan when running over 30/40 ks as they will only cause drag. Do you have an electric fan for the A/C?

Yes I have an electric fan for the A/C.
That stays on constantly. Is that a bad thing?

If possible I would need someone to kind of point me in the right direction with installation of the fans in terms of setting temperature and what not. Installing the fan is no problem but I want to make sure everything runs right because I don't want no overheating problems. I spoke to a mechanic friend of mine who has a soarer also and asked him his opinion. He told me to just get the right fan for the engine. He wouldn't advise electric fans because of O.H. Problems. I'm so friggin' confused with this one. I don't want to end up spending big bucks again and eff it up.

I asked the same question about 4 years ago and was told the same by a work shop in perth who tried and went back to a stock fan because of heating problems.

Patrick,
Joe may well be right. I've just found electric fans are effective and reliable and do the job well.
It's your call but if the fans are set up right you shouldn't have any trouble. Many newer cars now only run electric fans as it gives a slight horsepower/fuel advantage, ie no point in running a fan when airflow on the road will do the job anyway.
It's interesting that your A/C fan is running all the time or is only when your A/C is turned on?

I had a problem when fitting a new water pump and somehow managed to fit the wrong one (doh!) so my original fan wouldn't fit back on. I have decided to fit an electric fan and I reckon a 16" one will fit fairly well in the fan shroud. Using the original shroud will mean that the aircon fan isn't affected and airflow should be at least as good (probably better) than the viscous fan.

It would only take four right angle brackets to suspend the fan in the shroud, then put a temp sensor into the top hose to handle the switching.
