I'm fairly sure that toyota used black goo for all oem joints. Could simply be a blown motor swapped out for a chaser motor and needed the mid sump swapped for a rear?

Yea 3 layer HG is about right, around 1.2-1.3mm compressed. If the sump has been off, the motor has been out of the car as it is not possible to pull the sump with it in there.

taking the sump off isnt really considered 'opening' an engine, taking the head off is, its not a big deal to drop the sump and put it back on.
