i've had a rattling sound coming from my exhaust and that was because the cat was busted. can you pinpoint the source of the sound? from the front of the car or the back of the car?

It's coming from the back of the engine.I check the cat with a hammer and there is no problem. This sound come really from the enginebottom.Weird problem.

could be the timing tensioner pulley. a few people on here have noted them to get noisey/rattly when they start to wear out?

I just change the belt and tensioner pulley so this must be good. It's sounds like a rod bearing but normally this noise stay or go more bad.

Yeah it will be worn big ends. There was a whole thread a while ago about people that had the rattling at startup.

Some people had the noise for years and years and years with no problems, others had a big end let go.

What kind of oil are you running mate and how often do you change it?

I'd recommend running a 10-40 or 15-40 with your big end knock.

I had before 10-40 and change last week to 5-30 Asyntho from kroonoil but this knock i had before oil change also.I remember from my supra91 7mgte that a big end knock that this noise stay and go more bad when i kick to 2500rpm and above but when i do this with my soarer after warmup then i can kick to 6500rpm without any strange noise and runs super.

i had a big end let go on me on my celica. and you could definitely here it. and it was constant. didn't come didn't go. was just a really loud rattle/knock and stuff all power.

the fact that it comes and goes i think would lean away from a spun bearing.

Hi guys,
I put last weekend the new bearings and put all together and start the car and brrrrrrrr this noise is still there, only little more noise then before.I really don't know where i must look now or what i must check.I checked the rods and pistons without any play,so every help to put me in the good direction would be fine.
