hey everyone i was wondering if you could let me know what to look & listen for when it comes to the 1jzgte?(basic things to look for when looking at a soarer to buy) what are known problems/weaknesses of the 1j besides the ceramic turbo's?and are there any tell tail signs of the problems?

The 100,000km service is a doozy, as it is on most cars. You are looking between $500-$1000 depending if you can do it yourself or not.
If you are buying under 100,000km then bear that in mind. If the car is over 100,000km then check to see it has been done. The timing belt is the big one, and most change the water pump at the same time due to the labour involved etc. The engine mounts also may need replacing, but that isn't too big a deal if you are at all handy on the tools.
I don't think there are any 'major' issues with the 1J. Like most Toyotas, they tend to be very reliable, and they aren't at all stressed in their unmodified/lightly modified form.
As for the rest of the car, have a search on the forum. There is a thread somewhere about 'what has gone wrong with your Soarer' or something like that. It has just about every issue ever seen. You wont experience half of this list.

In stock form I would describe it as very linear, like a lot of late model v6, but with a slight surge in the mid range before a significant drop off around redline.
