Hi guys,

Started up my car today only to find that the engine has developed a rattle, only does it at around 1200 rpm so something has come loose.

Hoping its just a bolt or something and not turbo related, but if its a turbo how any idea how much am I looking at getting a stock replacement second hand?

Mechanically it seems fine to drive, engine performance doesnt seem to have changed at all.

I'll get it into a mechanic ASAP, but any ideas what it could be?

It's doing it anytime, but only at that certain rpm so I tend to avoid putting the car near that rev range.

So many things it could be - you really need to try and work out what part of the engine its coming from. Use one of those stethiscope probes, or failing that a long screwdriver (hold the pointy end against the engine component and listen to the handle - sounds crazy but it works!)

Well I found the problem, it was a bolt on the cat/dump pipe connector that had lost a nut! was rattling like crazy, I can't believe it actually stayed on there!

Once I found the problem only took a few mins to fix, thanks heaps guys, i'm very relieved!!

cheers,
Owen
