Hey guys,
I recently picked up a 1991 TT a couple of weeks ago (my first soarer). All seemed good, got the car checked out..got a good price. However, recently I've noticed in the morning that the car has been blowing white smoke. It isn't a huge amount, nor is it a trivial amount. This lasts for maybe a minute or two, and then is gone. The other thing that I noticed is the turbos have a very distinctive whistle...
From all the searching and reading I've done, it seems the turbos are about to go kaboom?
Well to make things even worse, when I was driving today I got this red error message ending with a 4..and the car won't rev past 2000rpm. AHHH.
I also know there's a leak with the power steering/steering rack aswell.
Ive booked it in for a full service on Friday and will speak to the mechanic about it.
Basically looking for any advice or comments. I'm guessing this will be expensive.

One of the Turbos may have blown the exhaust wheel off and blocked the cat causing the error message and stopping the car from revving. Easiest way to find out would be to unbolt the exhaust from in front of the cat and see if there are bits of turbo sitting in the cat or piping.
2nd hand turbos are usually around $300 for the pair but labour can be double that if you can't swap them yourself.
If its not one of the Turbos check the hose to the map sensor if that has popped off the car will struggle to rev but I hate to say it it sounds like a turbo.
Most TT's will blow a little smoke on start up anyway and its usually valve stem seals that need replacing, mine has been doing it for 2 years and has not changed yet.
