hey im upgrading to a 2j soon but i want to convert it to single too and im thinking if i could save some money and use my 38mm external turbosmart ultragate race series and if a gt3076r will be too small with a .63 rear housing...
i only want to reach 300-350rwkw max just want good response but dont know if it will be too small...

any ideas? or will i have to get bigger wastegate and turbo as i really want to go gt3540r but im on a really cheap budget at moment lol

also can i use my oil lines from the single on the 1j and use them over to a 2j or are the fittings different? i know ill have to change the oil return as i will have to get a new manifold but im wondering if i can keep the oil pressure line and maybe coolant lines.

The turbo is very small for a 2j , and You would be better off with a MIN 0.8 housing . However, a 0.8 housing is would give best response vs power for street car on a 2J .

oh crap i thought that had a bigger turbo... might try look more at the specs and what trims he was using but im not after a lag monster i had one of them when i put a more responsive turbo it made driving more fun again (for me anyway) yet still have the ability to put out more power eventually i want to take it out to the track (with different wheels of course lol) cause i dont think ill have the money for the turbo setup aswell..

but do you think a 38mm race series ultragate can flow enough for round 340rwkw?

cant find much but they say its an internal wastegate gt30 running standard 2j headers into custom pipe to turbo.. and says 450ps which is around 330rwkw which is what im after.. so with any luck a few better supporting mods like injectors may help me get the same but im guessing a 38mm should be ok ill just ahve to get a bigger spring of around 14psi for the base psi

any ideas if not may sell the turbo and try get the gt3540 and use my wastegate. i just wish i had the money to just do it all fully and properly straight away haha i hate being a mechanic the wages are pitiful

Aaron, Justin Cook was looking for a smaller rear housing for his (gt30, 1.06). Maybe you can work something out?

I have a GT3582r with the .63 housing.
I am seeing full boost by 3600rpm.
Its very responsive . Lots of fun around the streets

If you get the gt35 with the .63 housing and found it a bit restive on the 2j. you can up grade the rear housing easley enough to a .82 or 1.06.

That Amuse supra is running about 270-280rwkw. 450PS would be at the engine. They mention its still on standard injectors also. With 350-400rwkw it would be sideways lock coming out of those 2nd gear bends.

Either way GT30 series turbo won't do 300rwkw consistently with a 2J + 0.6 rear combo. Maybe 295-300rwkw on pump fuel with either of the bigger rear housings but then you're compressor limited and the final figure would be determined +-10kw by the transmission behind it and the weather.

IMO 35R with 0.8 rear for a good mix between response and power potential. The manifold you use, and the exhaust setup employed makes a big difference to boost response. Grants 35R 1J setup is much like the video in terms of response.
