Im just looking for some rough ideas on prices for the stuff i need to fix on my car. I knew i had to get a few things fixed on my car and i had it serviced yesterday and i now have a fresh list of things i need to focus on getting done!
air and fuel filter drive belt is cracked need replacement timing belt due rear main oil leak power steering rack is leaking
I also told him to look at the exhaust tip for me as it rattles and really annoys me! its just the left side. Im fairly sure that its just the tip being loose and needs a good spot weld or something! on the things i need to do list though he has written "both rear muffler are crashed" what does that mean exactly? im thinking i need to take it to an exhaust shop to get another opinion!
Cheers

Airfilter from castle hill for OEM one i think are around $70
Fuel filter for a ryco one around $20 Drivebelt, hard to say, its a PK number belt, get the number and ring a auto parts supplier, but shouldnt be more than $50
Timing belt, bit more involved, around 4 or 5 hours labour, then you need the timing belt kit which will include timing belt, cam and crank seals, Idler pulley and tensioner. Hourly rate at our work is $85 an hour, then timing belt etc is around 200 for the lot i think.
Also while your there its wise to replace the waterpump, thats around 170 from memory from castlehill toyota.
Rear main seal will cost you to, as it requires the removal of the transmission, the seal its self is only 20 or 30 dollars, but labour will be 5 or 6 hours.
Steering rack is hard to say, but if its leaking from the side seals etc, then it requires removal and then sending off to be rebuilt, or you could get a good 2nd hand one of this forum for under half the price of a rebuild, but your guaranteed a non leaking rack getting it rebuilt. Proly around 500 all up for that.
Im assuming he either means the cars been hit in the rear end at some point and crushed the mufflers or the innards have started to fail and fall apart. Which will cause rattling as the exhaust gases pass through it.

shop around for prices especially for things like timing belt. i asked one mechanic for a price on timing belt for his avalon. guy wanted something like $600 - $700 just for that.
you could do a few of the basic things your self fuel and air filter, drive belt MAYBE timing belt
there's a few write ups on here and else where on how to do those.
or get the soarer manual thats linked on this site somewhere its about an 80meg PDF file and it explains alot of the procedures... beats getting bent over by the mechanic.

Hey thanks for the reply's! and yeah i will be shopping around for the best prices! And yeah about the exhaust the previous owner who is a friend of mine who didn't give a crap about the car i might add went over a speed bump way to fast and when he came back down it hit the muffler dinting it! I have had it to an exhaust place before and they said that it shouldn't matter! Im fairly sure its just the tip that needs a spot weld like u can give it a slight tap with your foot and it rattles very slightly! But really noticeable when you 1st take off etc! You can buy air and fuel filters from like supercheap repco cant you? thanks
