hi guys, Wondering what else i can look at in stopping this miss i have. so far i have..
-changed plugs (bosch plat) -swapped coil packs from my 2j -Done the Fuel ECU bypass (stopped a stalling issue at idle i had) -looked inside the ECU (the caps appeared fine how ever the wiring loom was slimey??)
can i swap ignitor modules from a 2j? what have you seen?

When you say mis-fire, does it get spluttery at high revs?
What mods you got? As soon as you improve the flow through the engine by either a BFI, less restrictive exhaust, or a FMIC you start having problems with boost cut.
Get yourself a FCD if this sounds likely. Cheap, easy fix.
Did you gap the plugs? I had problems with incorrectly gapped plugs which caused mis-firing.

is your timing correct?
could it be a fuel issue. ie to much.. not enough.. bad batch, better octane rating?
hows your air filter?
How do you adjust your timing on a 1jz? How will a cleaner filter help? It has nothing to do with spark, it may even make the problem worse.
Josh, Do a search, also check if the coil packs have any cracks in them. It isnt easy to diagnose these things, we have some decent electricians that can do this for you here in SA.

thanks for the replies. The coil packs run fine in the supra which is why i used them to test. the air filter looks brand new. Yes its spluttery when i slam the pedal to the floor. It has been through about 5 tanks of petrol with the problem still there.
only one mod 3inch all the way from the dump no cat. But the problem does not feel like fuel cut as i've hit that in the past.
I purchased the spark plugs which have the four points at the bottom that do not require gapping.
thanks Josh

Josh its probably the plugs . Just go to your local Auto shop and get some BKR6ES plugs .Gap them to 0.75mm . That should cost ya about $24 for the set .
I reckon the Bosch plugs you bought cant handle the extra boost your now running and the spark is blowing out .

Its those Bosch plugs. They're a waste of money, you can't gap them and spark only goes to the closest electrode. So you've just got an overgapped plug.
If you're running more boost I'd recommend some NGK BKR7EX or BKR7ES plugs, as it is one heat range colder than factory and gap them at 0.028 of an inch or so. I know 5 guys including myself with this setup and it has never misfired.
