hey guys my JZZ30 is stock apart from a Turbosmart manual boost guage and pod filter, and an "Apexi Air Flow Meter" im new to turbos and dont want to screw anything over. question 1) if i up the boost using the guage the fuel cut will still kick in at 11psi no matter what i set the boost at? 2) wat the hell is the air flow meter??!! cheers

1. The stock fuel cut is usually between 13.5 and 14.5 psi, so if you wind the controller up to much it will just hit cut unless you have a fuel cut defender installed. 2. Soarer TT's don't run airflow meters just MAP sensors.

True.. so maybe my boost guage is set on 11.. hmm these fuel cut defenders ive been reading so much about. were do i get my hands on 1, how much, and how hard to install???

A Boost gauge does not alter the boost level it is just to display the amount of boost running.
In order to alter the amount of boost pressure you need a boost controller. Either a manual bleed valve or electronic controller.
A fuel cut defender will allow you to adjust boost via a boost controller beyond the factory cut off level of approx 14psi. You can buy a DIY FCD kit from Jaycar for around $30 but they do require full assembly (soldering ETC) or you can buy a HKS or Turbosmart kit for around $100-$150 on the net.
Raising the boost beyond 14psi with a stock exhaust will raise performance but will most likely reduce the life of your turbos as the stock system is very restrictive and put more stress on the turbos. Your better off fitting a good aftermarket exhaust system first and raising the boost later.

yea sorry i meant boost controller!! :S ok great ill look into those kits!! yeah wont be uping the boost till the exhaust system is on! just trying to plan ahead before i dive in!! thanks mate!

Whats this Apexi air flow meter you are talking about? Is it an electronic gizmo inside the car? Or something in the engine bay? Do you mean apexi-AFC?
You will know when you hit boost cut, the car will jerk and stutter. Very annoying thing to have happen.

If you get a nice free flowing exhaust and intake, you will usually find the 'natural' boost level raises to around 10-13psi. Something to think about.

yea its a interior gizmo!! it just says Apexi air flow meter on it, and it has all these settings and sensor menues, i havnt played with it cos i dont want to screw stuff up! yea i no were the boost cut is! :S and it kicks in at 11psi. thanks, it seems exhaust is first on the cards, recomendations? size etc?

I have never heard of a factory boost cut being 11psi, possibly your boost gauge or map sensor may be faulty or possibly the settings in the AFC are wrong.
Apexi AFC allows you to alter the airflow readings to the ECU allowing you to tune air fuel ratios. read here for more details on the AFC
