So upon removal of the timing belt cover I found that when the cam gears are at 12o'clock the crank is in between the 0 and the 5 mark.

Is this a bad thing and should I bother fixing it up?

I haven't been in another Soarer, and this is the first time I've had the timing belt cover off so I wouldn't know. But I guess it's running alright, no obvious problems anyway.

Would performance get any better if I set it up the way it should be?

spin it one more turn. ie right round to 12 oclock again. it may line up all the 12s. motors can be tricky like that.

Ok tried to today, ended up in the same spot in between the 0 and 5 mark on the crank.

Would this hurt performance?

what u need to do is set the crank to TDC no 1, aka 0 degrees, then look at the timing marks of the cams, if there out a tooth etc then its advisable to fix it.
