Is a Soarer meant to pull hard to redline? WOT on mine winds up 16psi and pulls hard till about 4500rpm then it gets lazy, no farting or popping or boost cut or anything it just gets slack.

Now I'm thinking the ECU is pulling timing but the knock levels on my SAFC2 stay pretty low.. and I don't know what it feels like when timing gets pulled.

Would this be a spark gap issue? I've currently got NGK BKR6 iridiums at 0.9. Crackless coilpacks, new connectors and Ultimate 98

And my crank/cam timing is out by 2 or 3 degrees, don't know if this would have any effect.

Ideas guys?

Cam timing will effect it for sure . How do you know its only 2-3 degrees ? is it 1 tooth completely out ? or is 1 cam out ?

Also , dont rely on an SAFC for knock readings . Good chance it may be detonating due to the settings in the SAFC and pulling timing out up top, which would make it feel a little lazy .

ANother thing that can have this symptom is a Blocked or Collapsed Cat or restrictive exhaust system .

When I rotated the cam wheels so the marks line up at 12 o'clock on the cover plate, the crank mark was in between the 0 and 5 mark on the block.

The SAFC isn't connected to the MAP sensor line, I'm just using it as a monitor at the moment.

Interesting on the cat, I'll get it check out today as I'm getting the wideband bung put in and a big PWR tranny cooler! :-)

Does resetting that timing mean the harmonic balancer needs to come off?

Actually no scrap that, bloody thing still does it! This is what I've done so far..

Fixed cam/crank timing
New coilpacks
New coilpack connectors
New BKR6IX at 0.7mm
Greddy FCD set at 4.15v
New fuel filter
New pod air filter
Cleaned intake air temp sensor
Cleaned plenum and throttle body

Also ran 2 cans of subaru upper engine cleaner and 2 bottles of Techron 5000 a few tanks ago.

Hmm.. is this normal behaviour for a 1JZ?
Any ideas anyone? It's really me :-(

Check for a blocked or collapsed cat convertor . This will restrict power . And also check for boost leaks . All intercooler clamps and vac lines as well as checking pipes for signs of rubbing and pin holes .

Will do mate, how do you check if the cat is blocked up? A mechanic told me to kick it and see if it rattles.. hmm..

I'll build a boost leak tester this weekend and get T-bolt clamps.

Remove cat and look through it to see if its still in good condition is the only way . Otherwise, drop the zorst and take it for a quick burn, hehe ;)

Ok well I couldn't take the exhaust off because it's all welded up until the y-pipe. So I tried unbolting it from that and I don't have enough extensions :-( bah!

Is there a way to test the cat other than kicking it?

Until I try to borrow some extensions from a mate, would this be a symptom of the auto box slipping? Or could it just be the convertor locking up?

Okay so I dropped the exhaust this morning right after the dumps, HOLY F*** WHAT A SOUND!

Turbos are near instant spooling! But the lack of power was still there.. inspected ALL hoses again and they all look sweet. Disconnected the boost controller and just hooked the pressure and wastegates up as stock. Held 12.5 psi nicely so that left the boost controller as a problem..

Went through all the different settings on the boost controller and found a few menus I've never been into before, one of which was a limiter or something. From what I could gather it appeared that it was set to limit boost to 40% duty cycle if it detects over 15psi. Damn secondhand units..

So, turned that off and gave it another run, no power drop off WOO HOOOO! I have yet to bolt the exhaust back up because it sounds so badarse haha.

Fullboosted past a VY SS who had his window down and he shat himself hahah.

Thanks for all the help Daniel your Soarer is an inspiration :-) I think I'll get the cat changed anyway as I have a spare 3" ceramic magnaflow somewhere.
