finally got my soarer going complete with single turbo conversion and now have a small problem. after driving around 30kms max i started it up in my driveway only to discover a nasty knock from the bottom end. since then i have pulled down the engine to find a spun bearing on #2 bigend. the rod is quite knackered and am unsure about the crank as yet. also have notices that the water jackets are abit corroded in the head but haven't had a second opinion as to weather its stuffed.
Am i better off to get a replacement engine and leave the blown motor in the corner to collect dust???? my budget will allow about 1500-2000 at the moment so i have ruled out the idea of building a 1.5jz as i would have liked. anyones opinions would be very much appreciated

Daniel, I'm in the same boat. My 1jz has been over heated and the cylinders are scored. Turbo's are also history. I got some pricing on pistons, rings, head work, etc. I'm looking at buying a imported 1jz and dropping it in, looks like the cheapest option at the moment.

Get a bare replacement motor for a few hundred bucks and whack that in. Then you can take your time building up your 1.5jz. The 3 litre bottom end makes a big difference, you'll like it.
