Seeing i have 4 weeks off for christmas, and the workshop is free for 3 weeks i thought this the perfect time to get a few jobs done on the old soarer.

I started with buying a set of adjustable camgears, and a gates timing belt, had these for a while.

So got the car into the workshop and dissasembled the front end of the motor, radiator, shroud, fan, battery, intercooler piping, airbox, timing covers etc.

Cracked the crank bolt with the use of a 3/4 inch breaker bar against the chassis rail and cranking the starter motor, TIGHT BUGGER< took a good 10 or so wacks to free it up. Once that was done removed the timing belt, removed the seals, checked the tensioner, waterpump and tensioner pulley for wear, tensioner pulley was still smooth and waterpump pretty good but thought il replace them while im there.

Anyway went shopping around the local stores, all i can say is thats a waste of time, they could not supply me any of the seals (apparently a odd size) the tensioner pulley or waterpump (this is going to toyota dealership down here to) So cars now been sitting on the hoist for a few days because i cant get parts, so castle hill toyota to the rescue :-).

Ordered parts yesterday, and they arrived this morning, got my self a tensioner pulley, seals, genuine waterpump, coolant temp sensor, and a few other bits and pieces.

Castle hill are just brilliant, so easy to deal with and correct parts were shipped with very minimal information. Cant recomend them enough

Anyway, while this is happening, a while back i managed to clip a rock with my exhaust, it hit so hard it smashed a $160 3 inch flex coupler and pushed the exhaust so hard into the frame that it pushed a hole through the exhaust and cracked my LEWS dumps in 2 spots.

So exhaust gets dismantled, dumps removed and i weld them up with the mig welder, while its all apart, i remembered reading jeff bedsors thread about the exhaust manifolds, so off come the turbos, off come the manifolds and i ported them out.

Those manifolds are SOOOOOO restrictive, the ports are half the size that they can be due to being scalloped. So ported them out, polished them (gotto finish polishing today) and ported the exhaust housing on the turbo to match the larger sized port :-).

So today i should finally have my beloved soarer back together and running, be so nice to drive it again, and hopefully with a bit more grunt :-)

Anyway, its all assembly time now so heres some pics of where im at at the moment haha.

Condition of the turbos is pretty good, very very minimal shaft play, but the oil seal for the rear housing is weaping ever so slightly, i new this as on hot start ups it will puff out a bit of blue smoke, but thats it, while driving etc its never blown smoke so im happy with them till i go single :-), they are holding up allight for 17 PSI daily

Some of the manifolds, i havnt finished smoothing the ports out yet, i will do that today

Genuine parts For the win ! :-)

Anyway il post some more pics along the way :-)

Any what it should look like put back together HAHA

well its now backtogether and running better than ever.

I Adjusted the camgears slightly, originally had 2 degrees advanced on the intake camgear but it kept playing silly buggers with the cam sensors so ive reverted back to standard timing, ive set the exhaust camgear to 4degrees retarted and seems to pull much stronger up top now.

The porting of the manifolds seems to be a huge success, much more off boost power and boost comes on slightly earlier.

Only problem i seem t be having now is boost is creeping really badly under highload gears aka 4th, around 5K RPM it starts to creep up to 1.5 bar which is when i backed off haha. If you read this jeff did you have this problem after porting your manifolds?

Hopefully i can program this out with the use of the AVCR.

Completely dissasembled the turbos, soaked the housings in degreased while i worked on everything else, ive found after pulling them apart that the front turbo rear seal is weeping slightly, but nothing im to worried about, other than that, stuff all play :-)

Ported manifolds on :-)

ALl up wasnt a bad experience haha, ive now pulled the dumps of the car 4 times now haha
