I'm just curious..

My engine (1jz-gte) has roughly 160,000kms (99,500 miles) on it and if I come by a really good deal on a 2jz, I will definately take it. I just want to know, how easy the swap would be.

1 - I'm driving a 5 speed (R154) Soarer
2 - Will I need to swap ecu or anything?
3 - What are the things that would require work?

Thanks :-)

ive done the same thing with my jzx90 mark2 (1jzgte engine from stock , refitted with a 2jzgte)

basically you remove the loom ,ecu and gearbox from your 1jzgte and plug it into the 2jzgte i think only 1 or 2 plugs are different . some work is needed around the heater hoses as they are different but overall its a really easy conversion

what about ecu's? to run the dash and stuff? will the 2jz gte ecu work out of say an aristo with the dash of a 1jz gte soarer? or will we have to use the 2jz ge ecu out of jzz31?

You most likely have to do some wire splicing from the ECU to Dash wiring as the plugs wont line up

Kane ;
depends on if you want to run the sequential turbos still..
if not it is easy;
pull the 1jz out.
take the 1jz loom off and fit to the 2jz.
put the motor back in.
fiddly bits are the heater hoses as stated above top radiator hose and exhaust.
to run the two turbos together .take the reed valve out of the pipe from the back turbo and the butterfly.
and wire open the butterfly in the exhaust.

the thing is what are you plans for the future (always think ahead when possible)
If you are going to go a single later (like most of us do)then what i have said above is the quickest and easiest way.
If you are going to leave it stock then the 2jz ECU will have to be placed in instead of the 1jz ECU.
the 1jz ECU will do every thing that you need to do of you run the turbos together.
but sequential set up needs the 2jz ECU to do all the figuring out of when to bring in the 2nd turbo ETC.
cheers Lew
Mate what ever ya do just have fun doing it....it isn't a huge job to do

yes i just run mine off the 1jz ecu i made mine true twin
basically the rear turbo needed a sleeve made to cover up a hole , and also a hole drilled for the wastegate ( still confused how it works , but it has a wastegate bleed hole and flap after the turbine ?? weird .) also i separated the log style manifold into 2x 3 outlet manifolds. all this to achieve true twin turbo the same as a 1jz. each turbo has 3 cyclinders and its own wastegate.
this has been done in the past by rayhall [url]

i rang him , he didnt wanna know about modifying it .. so i have a machinest mate that done the job for me. ( if anyone else wants this mod done to your turbo , pm me )

heres his efforts
