Hi Guys,
After having my soarer overheat a couple of times in 30+ temperatures I really need to get it checked out by a professional.
Does anyone know of a trusted soarer/import specialist in Melbournes' south east that isn't going to charge me the earth do diagnose something that I could probably fix myself?
After boiling the overflow bottle a couple of times I have given the radiator a flush and filled with red coolant. I have also replaced the radiator cap. But on the next hot day it boiled the overflow bottle again. and now I have a mystery leak dripping coolant around the lower rear of the engine on the intake side - any ideas? Any advice would be great. I doubt very much that I have blown a head gasket as the motor is still running smoothly and there is no water in the oil at all and it is not blowing smoke/steam out the exhaust. Any other day temp stays still at half way, it only has a problem when it is 30+ and I go for a decent drive (1/2 hour+) Any ideas on where to start looking? Professionals?
Cheers.

Try Luxury and Performance Vehicles, they specialise in Soarer's. I got my radiator replaced for $300.

I'm looking further into the problem, I have located a diagram of the complete cooling system for the TT on this forum and I'm using it to locate the leak coming from around the intake somewhere.

I think that the new radiator cap that I fitted has put extra pressure on the system and maybe caused an old hose to split.

It is quite possible that the system had a air pocket in it after doing the radiator flush as well.

So it looks like I'll obviously have to find this new leak, replace whatever hose it is, flush the system again. Replace the thermostat as a precaution while the coolant is out and refill with toyota red coolant. (dammit! I have already spent good money on coolant and system flush!)
Making sure that I fill the system with the front of the car raised so that the radiator is at the highest point ensuring to bleed the system as best as possible.

I have also been told that the under car plastic covers aid in the effective cooling air flow to the radiator.

I will also look at the clutch fan as it seems to spin quite freely when the car is not running and I've been told it should have a bit of resistance. It does, but i'm not sure if it enough?

My only concern is that I will do this work and may end up with the same problem, and have to pay again for someone to have a look at for me. (I am on a budget, I have a mortgage, wife and two kids to support) Which is why I wonder whether I should just take it to someone like S&LC in the first place?

Beyond that, has anyone else had this problem before? Car overheating only on 30+ degree days, boiling the overflow bottle?
Any extra info people can give will be greatly appreciated.

your radiator could be partially blocked.

Upon driving the car to a friends house to check over the cooling system. The problem presented itself in glorious fashion, coolant was pouring out from under the inlet side of the motor.

When we removed the power steering pump to get a better look underneath the intake, it was still quite difficult to see where the coolant was coming from, all hoses seemed to be fine.

But with my friend underneath the car shining a torch up I could spot the problem from above: The welsh plug above the engine mount behind the hoses running to the oil filter has let go letting coolant leak directly out of the block!

It was only ever a small leak since replacing the radiator cap but now it is flowing badly.

I have limped the car home and I am now arranging alternative transport to work as it is going to be a big job to fix, and I need to do it myself to keep repair costs down. (it will cost a small fortune in labour to repair such a small part because of the position of the welsh plug, not to mention towing expenses)
