Hi Guys,
I just bought my first car, a TT Soarer last week. I didn't inspect the car thoroughly enough (very foolish of me) and now have noticed that there is an oil leak.
The leak seems to be coming near the front of the car close to the drivers side
The car seems to leak a few drops, usually after the car has just been used.
I got myself a torch and looked under the car, the leak seems to be coming from just this one spot. I'm not very knowledgeable with cars, but I did some googling and it seems to be coming from the oil pan? I took a few photos for you guys to see.
As you can see from the pictures, theres been a previous attempt to fix this. Theres a lot of glue type material all over it.
Can anyone tell me which part of the car this is? Do you think it would be easy for a mechanic to repair?
I havn't taken this to a mechanic yet but will so within a week or two when i have enough money.

you pore bugger your sump is mangled might be an idea to find a cheep one on here or find out if your mechanic is able to braze up the crack for you but either way you need a new sump plug and sump gasket. good luck with it matt

Cheers guys, ill take it to a mechanic asap. Do you think it would be hard for a mechanic to source a replacement? Or is it as simple as ordering from Toyota?

I have a spare pan if you need it, I'm in Brisbane. Also it is a pain in the ass job as you can not take off the sump with out undoing the engine mounts (fowls on the cross member) and so on. No gasket required as toyota use gasket maker to seal this to the upper sump. Pm me if you need anything. Cam

oh thats nasty if you get a new sump she will be sweet just make sure you raise the engine as cameron says and make sure the surfaces are really clean when you put the gasket goo on so it seals properly and dont overtighten bolts as will strip as they go into the alloy sump.

Hi guys, I was able to obtain a spare oil pan ( thanks Cameron). Just wondering if there's anyone from Brisbane who can help replace it for me. I'm willing to pay for the service of course. If not, can anyone recommend me a mechanic or someone who can? (is it something k-mart would do?) Cameron informed me that it's not a straight forward replace job and that the mountain would need to be lifted.

The guys that sold you the car without telling you is a wanker. I bet you it had the under cover tray hiding it. Seriously that looks was dodgey it is crazy, could onloy be worse if he used masking tape. Sorry to hear you had a bad expereince to dampen your excitment. I reckon go back to the guy that you bought the car from and get them to fork out for half the costs at a minimum.

Before you get too carried away why don't you get an ezi out remove the silicone take out the sump plug and inspect the sump for damage...I would bet you only need a new sump plug maybe even a retap and a different sump plug bolt. If the sump has a crack it may even be able to be repaired whilst still on the car...I mean it's definately not the worst I have ever seen..Dont go too nuts if you dont have too

Thanks for all the advice guys, fortunately Cameron offered to help me replace the oil pan. It's all working great now and no leaks whatsoever!
He said the threading on the bolt was non-existant and the bolt was pretty much held on by the silicon
Which makes me wonder because the guy i bought it off had receipts of a service being done including an oil change. This was dated Start of November last year.
Cameron mentioned the oil being blacker than black, which sounds like an oil change was never done that recent.
The guy who "serviced" the car happens to be the same guy on the road worthy certificate...

The thread in the sump was striped and a crack running up from the drain hole aswell as the bolt being striped, The sump bolt was help in by only silicone and was easy to remove by hand. I'm surprised it didn't fall out while driving.
There is not enough material to re-tap a larger thread in a jz sump.
