I have just replaced the head on a soarer I bought that supposedly had a blown headgasket. The head when removed definately had corroded and I assumed this was the cause of the previous owners overheating problems. It also had water in the oil and I still assumed that the head must have been the cause. Well it turns out after fixing it that it must have a crack in the block some where. Now after all the work that has been put in I am faced with two options.
1 wreck the car get back as much money as I can
2 undertake another major job in fixing it properly.
(I do have a spare engine too)
What would you guys do?
Bear in mind this car also needs 2k in paint/body work.

Nah I have a spare 1j that is good. Just going to have to switch blocks I think. I have never completely removed the engine out of a soarer. Whats easiest engine only or engine and trans toghether?

I can just unplug ecu and sit loom on top of engine then unbolt trans from chassis engine mounts exhaust and lift it out right? How about shifter in trans?? dont really know how to remove it. Guess ill find out when I start pulling it apart again?

Trans shifter disconnects at the point where it sits on the transmission. Just on the drivers side of the trans remove the nut it should slide off the grooved stud...
I'd disconnect the aircon comp from the engine block too and leave it hanging with zipties in the engine bay. You can fill up the power steering fluid if you disconnect the lines, but you can't regass your own AC from materials from supacheap.
i'd personally unbolt the driveshaft from the transmission and pull it with the engine, swap it outside the car... those bolts are annoying. Up to you though.
Make sure as you lift the engine out, you have a mate manhandling it with you, and also watching for things you missed unbolting/disconnecting.
have the other engine on a stand and swap accessories over (do the 100 000 service too while you're at it probably ) and then you're good to drop the old engine off the crane, pick up the new engine off the stand, bolt up tranny and throw it back in.
