Hi All,
A very annoying thing occurred Saturday morning.. I was on the M1 about exit 77 (Mudgerreba) when a massive cloud of smoke came from the bottom of my car, I pulled over to find my engine on fire!!!
Luckily it all stayed under the heat shield I made and nothing burned.. it was just oil on the turbo that caused the fire..
The oil line for the turbo split and spat onto the turbine housing causing the fire.. Awesome I know..
My issue now is that I have a lot of shaft play and a little grinding noise when I free spin the turbo.. also at idle it wont spin. I think the bearings gone as it would have run with no oil and then a hot shut down.
It is a T04B.. my question is who should I take it to to look at/fix it.. I don’t really want to pay 1 million Yen to fix it.. or should I look at finding a second hand one (or one that would fit the T4 manifold I already have)
I am pulling it all off and redoing all the gaskets.. manifold bolts, wastegate bolts and ordering braided lines and fixtures to ensure this does not happen again.
Runs fine.. I just have not tried to do more than just idle around due to the turbo (so no internal damaged due to oil pressure drop is evident as it runs ok,.)
Thanks guys.. bit complex but thanks for the help, as I am a little frustrated
