Just wanting to know if you can buy hoses, t-pieces etc required to setup manual boost controllers from Repco/Bursons or similar? Any specific hose and size I require?

Also how much hose I will roughly need to fit a manual boost controller to a 1JZ.

usually if you get it from there there could be a chance they should have t pieces and maybe even sell silicone vacuum hose. if not check out turbosmart. i tried monza silicone ones from supercheap and they lasted about a day before they split at 12psi so i wont recommend them.

Supercheap have T Pieces and vacuum lines. 3 or 5mm internal diameter should be fine, i'd get 5mm ID for easier to fit.

You will probably require about a Meter to do it all depending on how you set it up. It's cheap so just get 2 meters so you have left over to use at other times.

If it is good quality and a decent thickness it should not split. Try to keep it away from hot exhaust manifolds when installing so make use of cable ties as it is heat that causes them to split as they go hard.

I had a lot of probs with silicone hoses and ended up using fuel line and never had a problem.

I haven't had problems with good thickness rubber hoses. But Fuel hoses would be the way to go as they are stronger. Or just a thick rubber hose.

Autobarn is a turbosmart reseller. They have the hose you are after, and a range of connections.

Spill the beans, what sort of probs did you have with silicone? I just find it surprising is all.

Not much in the way of beans to spill. They kept on splitting.
I also bought a couple of meters of the blue silicone to replace all the vac lines and it was just rubbish and perished in next to no time.
The turbosmart stuff is good and worth the extra money.

You'll probably find the supercheap VACUUM hose was straight silicone, with no cloth reinforcement that you'd find in silicone turbo hose. It is designed as a dress up part for all your vacuum hoses and is not designed to handle boost unless so labelled.

usually dont have cloth reinforcement on vacuum hose. depends on the contents and thicknesses. monza were cheap. looked alright and was fairly thick. just split apart like was a foam.
turbosmart costs a little more but ive tugged on it and tried to rip it like the monza crap and it just stretched a little with no problems. im trying a bit of drift silicone hose too. bout the same as turbosmart but slightly cheaper. no problems so far.
if you are running a boost controller you will need 6 or 8mm
and dont use plastic t pieces. had so many break under heated areas and some melt if within 30cm from turbo. i just got brass ones now. couple of bucks extra but you will only need one or two and no chance of breaking or melting

If fuel line is cheaper than reinforced silicone hose use that.

Yeah- if you aren't chasing the bling bling of silicone then fuel line is a goer. You know it'll handle any boost pressure you throw at it, and it tolerates heat, vibration, petrols and lubricants very well to boot.

Some low pressure fuel hoses will collapse under vacuum and aren't made for the pressures you'll see under boost. "High pressure" fuel line (for injected cars) is much better. Just make sure you get some strong high pressure stuff and leave the low pressure hose to us guys with carbies :-)

good point Miles- I forgot about carby cars and their low fuel pressures.

Whether it will make a difference in real life? probably not.

I mean look at the factory hoses on the waste gates to actuators, they are not fuel lines, just thicker rubber hoses and they last for 20+ Years.

It will make a difference if they collapse under vacuum.

im using 4mm and 6mm id vacuum hose from supercheap with 5mm and 6mm t-pieces for my evc4 boost controller. (managed to install it and new vacuum lines for the wastegate etc without having to remove anything! the rear turbo took a lot of tongue twisting and stickin out in all directions) so far so good all holding up and no sign of deterioration. i bought 2M of both size vacuum hose and ended up having about a meter of 4mm left over.

if you are still unsure of the hose, you can go to somewhere like pirtek and be 100% sure what each thing is rated to.

They can be very handy for things like oil lines or fuel lines if you are doing DIY stuff (cheap and its the proper stuff rated to take it). They also sell truck intercooler rubber hose joiners that are rated to 250psi at around 1/10th of the price for silicone and copper joiners that you can use instead of speedflow connections, again about 1/10th of the price.

They will also custom make things like turbo oil lines for pretty cheap too, used them a lot when I was doing a backyard rebuild of a starion.

Same with me, I used 4mm ID Vacuum hose from Supercheap, no problems at all.
