Hi all, Just wondering if any one has the same problem in the morning. I have 2-3 seconds of noise on startup untill the oil reaches the cams then it sounds smooth is this normal??? or is the pick up dirty? and if it is how do I clean it? I used to have a similar sound on my 200sx but that was the varible valve timing. any help would be good.
I do use castrol edge 5-30. I was using 10-40 and it did the same so I went a lighter oil to see if there is any difference

Definitely some sludgy oil somewhere. I had the same problem, but my car had been in storage 7 years prior to me buying it.
Once I changed the oil and oil filter (Genuine toyota $12) The car hasn't made a sound since, and I run Penrite 15w50. - This is what Sports and Luxury cars puts in, which I think is too thick. I prefer 10w-30.

Hi Kadir yeah I think the pick up may have some sludge, I have done 3 oil changes since i've had it at 5000km thought that should fix it but still the same. I do not want to flush the engine with any additives as I know it does more harm than good. The old disel fuel flush would be great to clean the inside lol I have done this to my old crap cars cleans it well lol

On my old Soarer it never happened, but on this Soarer I sometimes hear a loud grinding noise from the Valvetrain on cold starts for a few seconds, with the low oil pressure light staying on for about 2 or 3 seconds.
Have done about 2 oil changes so far and tried a few different filters.
I too am thinking my pickup may be slightly blocked.

the noise you are hearing is the lack of oil until the motor builds oil pressure, generally its either a higher km engine or a mistreated motor (lack of oil changes, alot of hard driving) over time the bearing clearances and oil pump clearances become larger and as such takes longer for the pump to provide running pressure throughout the lubrication system
My old Soarer had 160,000km which had no noises. Current one is 67,000km. Engine seems in good condition, when running no knocks or anything runs very smooth.

I was thinking about a new oil pump to, what oil is everyone that has this problem using? I dont think it is doing to much damage to the engine though just knowing that the parts are moving with no oil disturbs me. If any one out there has come across this and found a soloution I would like to hear about it. Thanks for the tips guys
