Got a problem on my TT . It misfires badly when driving ,mainly on acceleration .
I've tried new coilpacks,plugs,02 sensor, map sensor, ecu and had no luck . The only garage I could trust is 200 miles away and its running so bad I cant really drive it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It could be leaky capacitors in the ECU?

When you say plugs, do you mean spark plugs? if so, there are two areas you haven't explored. Firstly, the ignitor. Secondly, the plastic plugs that connect to the coils can become slightly damaged over time, despite looking ok. you can buy these new from toyota(part number on this website)

Compression test? or a leak down test?. does it use any coolant or get hot?.

Dylan , are you saying a blown head gasket could cause these symptoms ?, it gets no hotter than normal but I did find a small amount of white residue on the oil filler cap but it has been stood for a while and there is none on the dipstick side

Electrical issues are often more consistent than what you describe.

How bad is the mis? Do you think it is affecting more than one cylinder?

A blown gasket could cause these issues, but if it was bad enough to cause bad misfires you would probably notice other symptoms such as using lots of water or oil, milky oil etc - though you say there are some signs of this sort of thing. Any garage should be able to perform a pressure test on your cooling system. You can watch them do it to make sure they don't try and diddle you. That'll rule that one out pretty quick.

Misfire under load could be a fueling issue. Check injectors, fuel filter and fuel pump. Under fueling can also cause overheating, though by the time you notice it on the gauge I'd think it would already have damaged something.

mate it could be a headgasket. like you have said you have ruled out coil packs/igniter/ecu/02 sensor and plugs so it may ither be a fuel issue, ie quality or injectors. or it can be mechanical. you could do a normal compression test to check rings and valve seats and you could also do a cylinder leak down test that will also check head gasket but also check for cracks in the head. i have repaired plenty of cars that have had head gasket issues and show very little sign of overheating and water loss. takes no time to do ither and you can elimate mechanical fault without paying money.

Check your fuel pump and filter and the fuel pump ecu, when you go to start the car in the morning does it start quickly or take a few turns before starting?

If the alternator not charging symbol is coming up that could be cause of the missfire not enough of a charge to power everything

while the car is running hook a multimeter to your battery you should run 14.8 volts that's with a good charged battery and alternator

also check your gauge fuse in your kick panel 7.5 amp by memory and fuse able link in the engine fuse box its a 120amp

swap your battery with a new one if they car run 12 volts means its just running off the battery

and you need a new alternator if that's the case

TPS? check the TPS with ohm meter.

TPS can cause lean misfire. just like the one your talking about.

hey guys...i have fixed my misfire problem...it was the "vacuum hose"...which was not connected...i fixed it and the car is flying now...but i may still need to change the spark plugs because the car was running rich in petrol which might have caused the spark plugs to burn or something....but apparently i still can use the spark plugs for sometime or still it gets dry or something...so guys if your car is misfiring check the vacuum hose before changing the stuff....
thanks a lot for you help guys....

Reset your ECU by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and reconnecting - it will re-tune to the current state and run much much better.
