Does anyone know how often your meant to get your timing belt changed over, sometimes my car makes a ticky noise, the mechanic said it may be that, then again he did say he didnt know too much about imports... My cars done 117000kms at the moment and yeah i dont know when im meant to do it.

You can remove the upper cover and inspect the belt, if it looks new, then i would say it has been done, if the writting is worn and has toyota badging on it, good chance that its still the original and i would be getting it changed as soon as possible for peace of mind.
In the event it did break, dont fret to much as the 1JZs are a non interference motor, so the pistons wont smash into the valves

If you end up doing the timing belt, make sure you do the water pump at the same time. If you know anyone half handy with a spanner it's not too hard to do. To get a mechanic to do it might cost you around $1k with parts, or more.
