Hey all,
I have had my car back from the mechanics for about a week, having had a new head gasket, some ARP head studs, and the 100,000km major components replaced (water pump, timing and serp. belts, all fluids replaced, etc.) When driving home last night, a warning light came on (at that stage I didnt have the diagnostic conversion table in my car), engine almost stalled at the lights, and was idling rough/spluttering. The warning light stayed on the cluster. I was about to pull over and turn the car off (as I do when something like this occurs). Then all of a sudden the car came right, and went like a dream for the next 5kms home.
When I returned home, having memorised the warning light symbols I am almost certain the warning was oil pressure. I was hesitant to run the car today, but inspected the bay, underneath the car, and ran it for about 5 mins with no trouble whatsoever.
My question is what could have caused this after a major service, what should I check, and is it likely to have done any internal damage? Note the warning was on the screen for 5 seconds max and the rough idle was so momentary that damage, if any, would be minimal.
I will advise the mechanic of any advice that can be posted here.
Note further that my car is completely stock aside from a 3" cat-back and HKS panel + BFI

No water in the oil, but the oil level seems a little high... There was a little milkiness on the oil cap but I had blown the head gasket just before this service.
How would there be water in the oil just after the water pump and head gasket have been replaced?
All I can put my finger on now is the radiator may not be holding pressure, and water is seeping (though the temp is stable), or it is some strange issue by overfilling of oil

There was water in the oil before the oil change, but before the head gasket change
(everything was tackled in the one major service)
The warning has not happened since my post, and I have been 'running it in' as the mechanic said and he advised a bit of moisture would be blown out. The head gasket blew next to a water jacket so Im guessing some moisture would still be present.
Should I change the oil again after a few weeks?
This is strange and I can't put my finger on anything

Did they pressure clean the motor ? i have occasionally had the oil pressure light come on for me before on other cars that i have pressure cleaned down the motor on, i suspect water must enter inside the switch & cause it to play up, they have come good once it all dries out though ..

The only time you could possibly have oil pressure dramas ? with the oil being over full is if it was massively over full so much so that the oil was subsequently been hit by the crank continuously & for a long time causing the oil to foam up really badly due to airation of the oil ...
But in saying that i beleive it still would not trigger the oil pressure light to come on, as i mentioned it needs less than 4 lb's pressure in the system to turn on the light & as Michael mentioned it came good as he was driving home, which once very badly airated it would take hours to settle down ..
Also Modern day oils have anti foaming agents in it to try & stop the above issues too ..

Sounds like they didn't start the motor/run it long enough after putting oil into it after the major clean. Probably took a bit to properly get the oil pickup going and the air out of the system..

Michael, What was the warning light, oil pressure (red light) or check engine (yellow light)? The reason I ask is, after my engine swap I got a check engine light come up, and no diagnostic codes. The problem was intermittent, and the engine would run rough. Found a loose clip on the 5th coil pack which I fixed. All good.

Digging up an old thread, sorry Evan it was the oil pressure warning (red Japanese text).
The problem has arisen since which worries me, but only seems to occur on warm startup. I am of one mind the oil is too light a weight (using 10w-40), and if i move up to something slightly heavier it may disappear (i.e. when the oil heats up its too thin?). Generally my engine health is fantastic, and I have had two mechanics check it out, once on a dyno day last week, which I didnt decide to run in beacuse of this.
Would anybody have any other ideas? My oil pump wasn't replaced either. I may also have an earthing problem, but I don't see how it would contribute to an oil pressure problem.

I have looked all through other similar threads and have found this to be a very common problem with TT's.
I just purchased an oil pressure gauge so I will be hooking that up to see if I get a reading below 4psi. The idle is a little spluttery when I warm-start it which is not good at all, which leads me to believe the sensor is fine and the problem actually exists.
Thicker oil for me - seems as though when TT owners with this problem (especially when it arises on warm start-up or heavy cornering) change their oil to a thicker grade, the problem goes away - reflective of the age now of our beloved 1JZs

Hi there I'm getting sort of the same problem I bought a soarer a week a go it had been serviced a week before I bought it . Now for the last two days and it's only happening while driving on the motor way while doing 100 km plus the japenese oil pressure waning light has come on I've checked for leaks none that I could find I left the car sit over night and found the oil to be way over the full mark on the dip stick do you think that could set the warning light to come on I'm going to drain some oil out would this help Car has been well looked after so hope that is all it is Feed back would be appreciated Thanks

If it is way over? you may have a frothing problem as the crank hits the oil in the sump, air in the oil will cause pressure to drop ,drain it to correct level

I drained some out yesterday drove to work this morning takes about 45 min and no warning so fingers crossed that's the end of it cheers for the feedback
