hi all i'm new so i'm not sure but i have been tryin to read through but can't seem to find a thread that matchs. ok just wanting to know if i will hit boost cut when i start drivning my hilux around mods list so far twin 2.5 dumps single 3 inch 3.5 100cell cat and a hooker muffler 3.5 injen pod filter 600x300x76 cooler cheers ian

ian i have 264/264 cams, fmic, ebc, exhaust and a few other mods plus i have upped the boost to about 12psi and it very rarely hits boost cut which i think is 13psi or 14psi.

Without a boost controller I would sit around 12-13psi but hit boost cut sometimes on a really cold morning with a front mount intercooler, pod filter, stock dumps, 3" into crappy ceramic cat.
But every car is different, only one way to find out Ian

ok cheers for that. yea i was gonna get a jaycar one for know. i will try and get some pics up tomorrow nite. cos i think i have a tunable ecu as well. i can't seem to find the same ecu. i have the silver box that says 1jz auto and then 8 wires come out the side to a black box which has 1jz and competition parts written on top. open up the box and it has 4 dials that you can turn up and down. i will be workin on it tomorrow so i will get some photos then cheers ian

boost cut isnt fuel cut austen. boost is high pressure air and fuel is well fuel. it is true that the fuel cut kicks in at the same time as the boost cut but they are different things.

It's fuel cut Nathan..
You are quite correct that boost does not come out of the bowser, and fuel does not come out of a turbocharger.
However, a fuel cut defender is what Ian needs. It clamps the MAP voltage to whatever is set on the FCD to trick the ECU into thinking only x amount of boost is being produced, thus allowing higher boost to be run without tripping FUEL CUT. Careful as this also affects the ignition timing.

ok so what i really need to do is finish the ute and take it to a dyno to get the cam gears set and have a look at the black box and adjust the fcd. and i will get pics of the box cheers ian

our cars dont have that system, actually i dont know of a car that does?
That is a type of bleed system, the only way to cut boost in a turbo internally is through the use of a wastgate bypassing te gases before the turbine so they dont spool it

Austen is right, it is hard to get your head around I guess but a Fuel Cut Defender protects your car from fuel cut. Fuel cut can be in the form of a Limiter or too much boost. Must be a few of these converted hilux's, a guy I know through freinds has a pretty tough one, has Emanage FMIC the works it's nuts
he Needs a Fuel Cut defender. This alters the voltage the map sensor feeds to the ECU. once this voltage hits around 4.25v (14psi or 1 Bar) the ECU cuts fuel to the injectors to stop damage being done to the engine from overboosting. (or what your describing as boost cut)

i know he needs an fcd like he said he was going to get. i was just saying boost cut and fuel cut are different things, and drugs have nothing to do with this chris.

ok thanks guys well i just have to finish the tail pipe for the exhaust but it sounds very nice. very rich though but once i have engine temp its all good.
yea there are a few hiluxs getting around know but mine is the only auto one that i have seen. cheers ian

Nathan, not sure where you got that information from but its not correct. A fuel cut defender/defencer is designed to stop the stock ECU cutting fuel at a certain level above the standard boost setting by clamping the voltage from the map sensor at a level just under the stock fuel cut. With Soarers the fuel cut is activated at around 13.5psi or approx 4.35V, when setup the fuel cut defender tricks the ECU into only seeing a level under that i.e. 4.3V depending on how its been setup.

no offence rob but i too believed the common knowledge that fcd stops boost cut, etc. although i read an interesting article about the subject somewhere 99% sure it was a magazine. it said how you can cut boost while the engine continues to rev as if it was n/a, which is why i bought it up.
