just about finished my conversion, my housemate is doing the work for me and a mate of his will be doing the electronics.. i have a manual ecu with the conversion i got..

how much work is involved with wiring in the manual ecu, and is it worth the hassle or should i just use the auto ecu...

i plan to get a powerfc as soon as i get the money so im guessing the wire will have to be modified anyways.

so just wondering whether i should get the wire doe now and run the manual ecu, which will end up having the replacement powerfc, or should i just leave the auto ecu and worry about it later?

manual ECU will plug straight into the loom, just bridge the park switch and its golden.

Powerfc is plug and play also.

Im sure someone more knowledgable in the manual conversion will chime in if ive mislead you.

Manual ECU will plug straight in, as will a PowerFC. There's no rewiring needed on that part. The Auto ECU will also work, but since you have a manual ECU you might as well use it. Just make sure it's from a similar year model, i.e. if your car is a 91 model, the ECU will need to come from a 91-93 model. A 94-96 manual ECU may give you some grief.

I drove around mine with an auto ECU for ages until I got my PowerFC. Just got a few error messages here and there but apart from that, mechanically it drove perfectly fine.

Providing the manual ECU is from a similar year model, you shouldn't have any dramas. You may just need to rewire some wires to allow you to start the car while it's in Neutral.

I remember something about getting the speedo to work, I just can't place my finger on it at the moment. I'm sure someone else on here can give you the answer though.

If you had cruise control prior to the conversion, that will also need to be looked at. I had to get mine rewired by a well known Soarer specialist here in NSW (Niall from Bond Auto Tech). If you need help in that department, give him a buzz. His number can be easily Googled.
