hey everyone i wanted to know if there is any advantage to getting an oil filter relocation kit with my oil cooler ? choosing between the type-r or type-s hks oil cooler. the type-r has the oil filter relocation kit and is an extra $100 is it worth it ? also it says it will only fit a jza80 supra (left bumper) will the hoses fit on my jzz30 soarer ? so how often do you need to change the oil filter ????

Both 1JZ (Soarer) and 2JZ (Supra) share the same filter (Z418 - from memory??), so they will fit. The only difference MAY be the braided lines as they may be shorter on the Supra as the Soarer has a longer front end.
There is no performance advantage to installing a oil relocation kit, it will just make oil changes easier.
The most common reason people install oil coolers and oil relocation kits are because they do track racing where there is high constant RPM that will heat oil and cause it to become too viscous loosing its cooling/lubricant abilities and shortening the oils life.
Oil changes are to be done every 5,000kms and oil filter every 10,000kms using 10w-30 (or 15w-40 if the motor is old and smokey on startup). If you do motorsport, you will drop the oil after every race meeting, this is where the filter relocation comes in handy.

Dude, read my post carefully. If you use your car for track, you'd be changing oil and filter regularly. The relocation kit makes it easier to change filters if you do plan on changing it very very often.
The standard location can be hard to get to if you don't use the correct tool. It is located under the inlet plenum (passenger side) and can be seen from the top if you look carefully, but accessed from underneath the car. You put your hand through the lower control arms to reach it. I use a 3 claw grip on an extension bar and it takes me 5 minutes to remove and fit a new one. If you're a lazy bastard that can't be assed jacking the car up then yes, it's a benefit.
The whole thing is a waste of money in my opinion unless you do heavy track racing every weekend, which I assume according to your lack of knowledge, you will only be using for daily driving and wank factor.

what are you going to use the car for prashant? i think chris is just trying to say most people get it for race use. if you want to get one get one. it will make it easier to change oil as you can relocate it to an easier place to get it and also if you place it right you wont get oil over your subframe or engine as you take it off. oil coolers are a good idea but if you arent going to be doing too much hard driving if you get too big of a core you can cool it too much. if you are just going to use it for street just get a 13 row kit if you are going to race it get a 16 or 19 core

I would make sure anything you get for a street car has a thermostat so that your oil doesn't run too cool, or take too long to warm up. Not a issue for a track car- mine is always bloody hot.
I find the filter relocation handy as I can just reach under the car to do the oil cfilter change. I never bothered on the street car as I only change every 5000 km so it wasn't worth the hassle of fitting one.
