Hi, i've read the 2jz starter motor is a good replacement for the 1jz one. Are there any differences between the NA 2jz, turbo 2jz and the VVTi 1jz in terms of fitment and suitability?

Jacob, I just did some research on toyodiy.com and they (gte, ge) share the same part numbers for the starter so they are the same. It figures as the block itself is near identical and the addition of turbos will not require a larger starter motor. Plus I had a 2J starter in mine for a while so they do fit. If your starter motor is stuffed however you should learn from my mistake and just take yours to an auto electrician and get it rebuilt. Should cost no more than $200 if you take it out yourself then you know your good for another decade.

i rebuilt my starter using rb25 starter parts. cost me $0. ordered parts such as full brush cradle with spare brushes for $50 so once the rb25 brushes wear out ive got everything ready for a rebuild. it is advisable to get it done properly tho as you will need access to a spot welder if you choose to do it yourself.
